As a die-hard fan who has followed Bleach since its early days, I can hardly contain my excitement for what the third cour of the anime comeback brings! The Shinigami’s reliance on Aizen, once their biggest adversary, is a testament to the unpredictable nature of this series. Although confined, Aizen still poses a formidable threat in the face of Yhwach and his Wandenreich.
In the storyline of Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War, Yhwach and the Wandenreich aren’t simply the antagonists on the sideline; instead, they pose significant threats to the Soul Society’s ongoing battle. Interestingly, the third season of the anime revival has shown the Shinigami relying heavily on a member who has grown into one of the afterlife’s most formidable adversaries – none other than Aizen, despite being vanquished by Ichigo Kurosaki years prior. His power hasn’t waned and now, as a holiday treat for fans, Bleach has sprung a delightful surprise!
Despite Aizen aligning with the Shinigami to take on the Quincy army, this fact doesn’t mean that the Soul Society is taking any chances. In releasing the Soul Reaper traitor, current leader Shunsui Kyoraku still has Aizen confined to a chair in the fight against Yhwach’s forces. As the past threat demonstrates, not having the use of his hands or legs still makes him far more powerful than the vast majority of combatants on the playing field. As the Blood War approaches its grand finale, it will be interesting to see the role that Aizen has to play in the final episodes and how Ichigo reacts to the villain once again seeing the light of day.
