Bleach Teases a 'Transcendent' Project Ahead of Its 20th Anniversary

As a long-time fan who’s been following the Soul Society’s adventures since the early days of Ichigo Kurosaki, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia as we gear up for the third part of the Thousand-Year Blood War this fall! It’s been quite a journey, from the early Hollow battles to the epic clash against Yhwach and now, the potential return of our beloved franchise.

In October, “Bleach” is set to resume with the third phase of the Soul Society’s battle against the Sternritter. Given that the second season of the anime version ended dramatically, Ichigo Kurosaki and his companions’ return promises to be one of the most anticipated events in the fall anime lineup. Prior to the start of the “Thousand-Year Blood War”, Studio Pierrot was narrating the initial tales of the Soul Reapers as they battled Hollows and other supernatural foes. Later this year, “Bleach” will mark the twentieth anniversary of its anime debut, which could potentially bring some significant updates for fans of the series.

The anime adaptation of Bleach, for those who might not be familiar, commenced in 2004, three years following the debut of Tite Kubo’s manga. Although the Soul Society experienced some popularity woes that led both the manga and anime to conclude initially, the “Thousand-Year Blood War” has once again put Ichigo and his companions in the limelight. It’s not hard to see why Bleach is frequently mentioned among the “Big Three,” alongside Naruto and One Piece, even though the series has had its ups and downs; it has certainly made a powerful comeback.

Bleach’s 20th Anniversary Event Explained

On September 16th, Japan will broadcast a live viewing of the Bleach 20th anniversary event, hinting at a significant disclosure for fans. With the Soul Society in focus, speculation is brewing among followers as to whether this event could unveil a fresh anime project and/or a reboot that promises a return to the series’ origins. Here’s how Studio Pierrot characterizes the upcoming celebration:

The popular TV anime series “Bleach” originally aired from 2004 to March 2012, with four movies based on it released up until now. This year is the 20th anniversary, and we’re excited about the third anime adaptation of the final chapter, titled “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War“. To celebrate this milestone, an unique cross-boundary project that goes beyond the original work and animation has begun.

What Follows The Blood War?

Originally, it was believed that the epic battle known as the “Thousand-Year Blood War” would mark the end of the Soul Society. However, unexpectedly, the creator of Bleach, Tite Kubo, penned a new installment titled “Bleach: No Breath from Hell,” which unfolded years after the confrontation with Yhwach and his troops. In this continuation, we find Ichigo Kurosaki, now an adult, living peacefully with Orihime and raising their own child. The special chapter subtly foreshadowed a terrifying new menace that was uncomfortably close to the Soul Reapers. In a shocking turn of events, once-deceased captains of the Soul Society found themselves in the underworld, having been banished for being too powerful, and they are less than pleased with their current circumstances.

2021 saw the release of the next chapter in Bleach’s story, but since then, it’s been eerily silent about where this saga is headed. If Studio Pierrot were to confirm that they plan to carry on Ichigo’s tale post-Blood War, Hell’s No Breathes seems like an ideal platform for future adventures. Tite Kubo might not be directly penning the manga anymore, but he’s still shaping Bleach’s destiny through his work on the latest anime episodes. So, if Ichigo and his Shinigami pals are up for blazing new trails, I’d say it’s Kubo who’ll be charting our course.
