Bloober Team Says it’s Done Making Bad Games

As a die-hard horror gaming enthusiast with a soft spot for survival games, I must say I am beyond thrilled with Bloober Team‘s recent success and their unwavering commitment to the genre. Having survived countless hours of terrifying gameplay in their previous titles, I can confidently say that they have earned my trust and admiration.

As a gamer, I must admit I shared the skepticism about the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake, given Bloober Team’s history. But guess what? The game dropped this month and let me tell you, it has silenced all the critics with its universal praise. Not only that, but it’s also been a commercial success, raking in over a million units sold within just three days of launch.

Lately, Bloober Team unveiled a brand new science-fiction survival horror game titled “Cronos: The New Dawn,” and given the remarkable achievement of “Silent Hill 2,” the development team aims to build upon this success in their upcoming project.

In a recent chat with GameSpot, Wojciech Piejko (co-director of Cronos: The New Dawn) discussed how Bloober Team managed to silence skeptics with their work on Silent Hill 2. He believes this achievement will inspire and elevate the entire studio, including the distinct team developing Cronos.

He mentioned that the years leading up to the launch of “Silent Hill 2” were challenging. However, they managed to pull through, and now there’s a sense of excitement within the studio. They are eager to demonstrate their capabilities and showcase how they can innovate and develop their concepts independently.

They reenacted a famed game, turning the seemingly unattainable into reality. Their journey wasn’t smooth due to online hostility, but they persevered under immense pressure. For the company, this is a truly remarkable milestone.

As the co-director and producer on “Cronos: The New Dawn,” Jacek Zieba announced that Bloober Team plans to continue working in the horror genre for future projects. He further stated that the studio aims to make a substantial leap forward, similar to the progress made prior to creating “Layers of Fear.” This was when they decided to cease producing subpar games.

He stated that they aim to become a company known for creating horror content. They’re seeking their unique place in the industry, and believe they’ve found it. Now, they want to grow alongside this niche. The process of growth might be intricate, but it also happens naturally, similar to how [2016’s] Layers of Fear served as a catalyst for them, with the team saying, ‘We’ve produced some subpar games in the past, but now we can evolve.’

Piejko mentioned, “Since our team is passionate about horror, it’s challenging for us to consider other genres, and honestly, we have no desire to do so.

Silent Hill 2 is available on PS5 and PC, while Cronos: The New Dawn is due out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. Meanwhile, Bloober Team also very much seems to be open to working on more Silent Hill games. Read more on that through here.
