It belongs to FromSoftware the rights for The Duskbloods’ concept, implying there could be a PlayStation 5 version released later on.
It’s been verified that Nintendo holds a stake in an online game resembling Bloodborne’s spiritual successor, Elden Ring. Interestingly, the developers behind Elden Ring recently filed a trademark for its name in Japan. Moreover, their official site states they hold the copyright for it.
In other words, although Nintendo holds the publishing rights for the game in North America and Europe, FromSoftware will independently publish it within Japan.
It seems quite likely that a PlayStation 5 version of this game may be released at some point in the future, particularly if it turns out to be popular.
The wording in the game’s reveal trailer said: “2026. Available only on Nintendo Switch 2.”
One possible interpretation is that this game might exclusively be for Nintendo Switch 2 throughout its entire lifespan, or alternatively, it may initially launch as a Switch 2 exclusive in 2026, but could eventually become available on other platforms later on.
Although Nintendo doesn’t hold the intellectual property rights for Bayonetta, they did distribute the second and third installments globally, including in Japan.
This scenario appears to be similar to titles like Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water and Live A Live, both of which were initially released by Nintendo and later made available for play on the PlayStation 5.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got my fingers crossed, but it seems we might need to exercise some patience. It’s not likely that FromSoftware or Nintendo will shed light on any long-term exclusivity agreements until their term is up. So, we’ll just have to wait and see, hoping for clarity in due time.
As a gaming enthusiast, if you’re not already in the loop, The Duskbloods is an exciting PvPvE multiplayer game that’s being developed by none other than the legendary Hidetaka Miyazaki. If you haven’t jumped on board yet, it’s time to get ready for a challenging and immersive experience!
During a recent conversation, he highlighted that FromSoftware remains committed to developing standalone storylines, despite the perceived trend towards multiplayer games, as seen in both their current projects and Elden Ring Nightreign.
