Actor Xolo Maridueña, who plays the title role in Blue Beetle, recently shared some insights about his character’s upcoming animated series, leaving many details still uncertain. In an interview with The Direct at the Saturn Awards over the weekend, Maridueña revealed that the Blue Beetle series is projected to air in 2026. Despite expressing uncertainty whether Jaime Reyes will officially join the DC Universe, he expressed trust in James Gunn’s vision moving forward. In the interim, Maridueña shared his enthusiasm for the animated series and aims to build excitement among fans, hoping for a strong debut that might lead to more installments featuring the character.
Maridueña expressed that he’s all set to return for the Blue Beetle project. He mentioned they’re putting a lot of effort into this animated series, aiming to finalize it this year so we can all see the results next year.
Maridueña acknowledged that he hasn’t had extensive discussions with Gunn regarding Reyes’ role in the DCU. He likened the situation to entering a busy kitchen, explaining, “I don’t want to disturb the chef while they’re cooking.” However, he added, “Once they finish this three-course meal, I’m ready.” He also stated that he trusts Gunn and doesn’t believe he’s lying. In a jovial tone, he expressed his excitement about their first project and looked forward to promoting it while they worked on the second one.
In August 2023, the film titled “Blue Beetle” hit the screens, marking the second to last movie in the DCEU series. James Gunn hinted at an Instagram post that this iteration of the character would be a significant part of the DC Universe moving forward! However, since then, no new updates have been shared, and as of now, there’s no indication of a “Blue Beetle” sequel on the DCU schedule.
The upcoming “Blue Beetle” animated series, though not yet officially set, is likely to join the DC Universe. Characters like Jaime Reyes might show up in various other DC Universe productions for crossovers in the near future. So, stay tuned! As of now, you can catch “Blue Beetle” on Max and also buy it on Blu-ray or DVD.
