Blue Exorcist Hypes Blue Night Saga With First Trailer: Watch

As a seasoned anime enthusiast who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, let me tell you this: Blue Exorcist has always held a special place in my heart. I remember stumbling upon it during its initial run back in 2011, and I was immediately hooked by its unique blend of action, drama, and supernatural elements.

Preparations are underway for the continuation of “Blue Exorcist” during the Winter 2025 anime season, specifically with the official adaptation of the Blue Night Saga. The release date, set for January 4, 2025, is quickly approaching, making it an ideal time for studio VOLN to unveil a fresh trailer for this exciting project. At Jump Festa 2025, fans were treated to a glimpse of the high-quality animation in the new “Blue Exorcist -The Blue Night Saga-” trailer, and also learned about the opening and ending themes for the series.

For the upcoming series, two new songs have been prepared. The opening theme, titled “Tsukaku” or “Sense of Pain”, is crafted and sung by amazarashi, a Japanese rock band known for their work on music for shows like “My Hero Academia”, “NieR:Automata Ver1.1a”, and “86 Eighty-Six”. The ending theme, entitled “Overlap”, is performed by Shiyui, who have previously produced tracks for “DEMON LORD 2099” and “Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch From Mercury”. These songs will be released for streaming on January 5, 2025, alongside the series premiere.

In the Blue Night Saga of the manga “Blue Exorcist,” a significant storyline unfolds. This part delves deeper into Satan’s past, particularly focusing on the horrific details of the “Blue Night” incident where Satan brutally killed numerous exorcists and holy men globally in an attempt to take over their bodies. The narrative follows Rin, now sporting white hair, as he delves into the event’s mystery, expanding upon the established world of “Blue Exorcist” to create a captivating storyline for both new and long-time fans of the series. According to the trailer, Studio VOLN is aiming to bring every detail of this story arc to life in an ambitious adaptation.

Blue Exorcist Is a Timeless & Underrated Shonen Staple

Although it may not be as widely recognized as some other manga series from its era, Blue Exorcist can certainly be considered one of the exceptional works within the shonen genre. First introduced by Kazue Kato back in 2009, this captivating story was serialized in the Jump Square magazine. The narrative unfolds across two dimensions: Gehenna, the realm of demons, and Assiah, home to humans. These worlds are intricately connected, reflecting each other like mirrors.

The majority of the narrative focuses on Rin and Yukio Okumura, two sons of Satan, as they join True Cross Academy, an institution for aspiring exorcists, with the aim of learning how to vanquish their father and avenge the caretaker he killed. This anime, rich in shonen-style action against demons and boasting a distinctive narrative, has garnered a loyal fanbase, selling over 25 million copies worldwide.
