Book of Boba Fett Star Has Disappointing Update About Star Wars Future

As a follower, I’m sharing an update from Ming-Na Wen, who brought Fennec Shand to life in Star Wars series like “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” During a recent interview with Screen Rant while promoting her new movie “Karate Kid: Legends,” she was asked if we’d see her reprise Fennec in the upcoming film “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” Sadly, she confirmed that she won’t be appearing in the movie, but expressed a hope to return to the Star Wars universe someday. She shared that she truly misses embodying the beloved bounty hunter.

Wen expressed his interest in being part of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” saying, “If given the chance, I’d be thrilled to join them.” He also mentioned his longing for Fennec’s return, explaining, “I share that sentiment because I miss her too.

Under the guidance of Jon Favreau, the duo known as “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is set to grace the big screen next May, making it the first fresh Star Wars movie in seven years. While specifics about the film’s storyline are being tightly guarded, whispers suggest that it might serve as an alternative to Season 4 of “The Mandalorian“. It seems Lucasfilm may not be planning another season of the Disney+ series. If “The Mandalorian & Grogu” turns out to be a hit, it could pave the way for a sequel. However, if it underperforms, it might signal the end of Din Djarin’s tale.

Initially appearing as Fennec Shand in a guest spot during the first season of “The Mandalorian,” Wen was subsequently elevated to a recurring character in the second season. In this role, she teamed up with Boba Fett and Din Djarin to save Grogu from Moff Gideon. Later, in “The Book of Boba Fett,” Wen portrayed Fennec as Boba Fett tried to claim authority over the Tatooine underworld. Additionally, Wen lent her voice to Fennec on three episodes of the animated series “Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

For a number of years now, Wen has left an indelible mark on the Star Wars universe, imbuing Fennec Shand with a tough, unyielding persona that ranks her among the galaxy’s top mercenaries. Considering Fennec’s connection to Din, it would have been exciting to see her rejoin him in “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. Unfortunately, Wen is absent from the movie. However, this omission could be justified from a narrative standpoint. With Fennec leading a criminal organization alongside Boba Fett, her time is likely occupied. In fact, Fennec didn’t appear in “The Mandalorian” Season 3, and Din still has other companions to turn to for assistance if needed. Moreover, it seems that he may be teaming up with Sigourney Weaver’s character, who belongs to the New Republic.

It’s possible that Wen might be keeping secret her role, if any, in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’. Historically, actors have been discreet about their involvement in major productions. Given how Lucasfilm is tight-lipped about the film’s details, it’s plausible that Wen could be contributing to the mystery. If she isn’t actually part of ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, we don’t know when we might see Fennec again. As for now, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Season 2 seems unlikely (with ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 being the only live-action Star Wars show in development), which leaves us unsure about Fennec’s screen presence. Perhaps there could be an opportunity for her character in Dave Filoni’s upcoming New Republic era movie.
