The newly unveiled trailer for Borderlands 4 showcases several significant updates in store for the upcoming game. Borderlands, a highly influential gaming franchise, gained immense popularity upon its debut in 2009. Its distinctive artistic flair, post-apocalyptic world with over-the-top humor and brutality, and chaotic cooperative play made it a standout title during the Xbox 360/PS3 era – an epoch when cooperative games were rapidly gaining traction due to online gaming capabilities. Borderlands served as a shining example of what these types of games could achieve. Fast-forward 16 years, and the series continues to thrive, consistently pushing boundaries with Borderlands 4.
Over time, we’ve seen numerous Borderlands games, both in the primary series and spin-offs. Telltale attempted to explore the Borderlands universe with “Tales from the Borderlands”, Gearbox dabbled in something new with “Tiny Tina’s Wonderland”, and last year saw the release of the not-so-successful Borderlands movie. Each experiment has been unique, providing fresh perspectives for storytelling within the franchise. Yet, nothing quite compares to a mainline Borderlands game.
Borderlands 4 Gets New Gameplay Trailer
This year, we can expect the launch of Borderlands 4, and we now have our first authentic gameplay trailer to check out. While we’ve caught brief glimpses of the game previously, this new trailer offers an in-depth look thanks to the PlayStation State of Play event dedicated to it. The trailer suggests that Borderlands 4 will take the series to a whole new level, not only by offering a massive arsenal of weapons but also enhancing gameplay mechanics. It appears that movement and environmental interaction will be more significant than ever before, as shown in the trailer through sliding, vertical movement, and the ability to manipulate objects like explosive barrels for strategic attacks against enemies. Take a peek at the video below.
In essence, Borderlands 4 appears to surpass its predecessors significantly, boasting a more expansive gameplay than previous installments without being labeled as an “open-world” game. It’s yet to be determined if it will meet fan expectations, but based on what we know so far, it promises intense combat encounters against numerous foes. There are hints that elements from the recent Doom games might have inspired some aspects of this new release, and these influences could significantly enhance Borderlands 4.
Borderlands 4 will release on September 12th for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2, and PC.
