According to Gearbox, the world of Borderlands 4 is described as being “extremely expansive” by CEO Randy Pitchford. While it may not fall under the traditional definition of an open-world game, it’s definitely larger than anything they’ve created before. Senior project producer Anthony Nicholson has added that it includes features similar to those found in open-world games.
He shared to GamesRadar in their recent preview that they’re enhancing the gaming experience by making it smoother for players in various aspects. “Borderlands 4” incorporates some open-world characteristics, including effortless movement between areas, a world that’s more alive with changing events, hidden side missions and activities, and fresh navigation techniques – all designed to motivate and reward exploration.
The sequel doesn’t strictly follow the conventional definition of an “open world game.” Instead, it builds upon the sense of exploration and immersion in the environment, a hallmark of the series, by creating larger zone maps. To enhance player experience, we aimed to connect these gameplay areas without any interruptions due to map loads, resulting in a smooth, uninterrupted gaming experience. In essence, this is why we prefer using the term “seamless.
It’s great news that navigating these maps will be smoother than before. Players will now be able to summon vehicles at any location, similar to the Sparrow in Destiny. Additionally, you’ll be able to instantly teleport to your teammates during co-op play. We’re eagerly waiting to see how character movement has been adjusted, but with a gameplay reveal scheduled for early this year, we should find out more details quite soon.
This year, you can get your hands on “Borderlands 4” for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC! Notably, Nicholson has confirmed an abundance of “billions” of weapons and accessories in the game. For further details, click here.
