As a seasoned Borderlands fan with countless hours spent looting, shooting, and laughing (or groaning) at the game’s humor, I’ve got to say, it’s high time for a change! For years, the series has been as predictable as a Vault Hunter’s loadout – an overabundance of toilet humor that leaves me longing for the days of a well-crafted joke.
In our perspective, we celebrate the distinct humor that each person possesses. However, for quite some time now, we’ve found Borderlands to be less than amusing; it seems this is something Gearbox has recognized as well.
On Twitter, Sam Winkler, the narrative director, openly expressed his continued disapproval towards the excessive use of bathroom humor in Borderlands 3. Although he declined to discuss the specifics about Borderlands 4, he made it clear that if the term “skibidi” appears in the game during his tenure, he would shed genuine tears.
Winkler characterized the novel game as representing “the most daring endeavor” by Gearbox so far, and further mentioned that he collaborated with some of the “most hilarious individuals I’ve come across” in crafting its storyline.
It’s important that Borderlands 4 doesn’t turn into a serious game without humor, but instead brings some laughter now and then. Frankly, we feel that Borderlands has overused crude jokes and excessive loudness, so it’s refreshing to know the developers are acknowledging these concerns and working to rectify them.
