It appears that Borderlands 4’s release date has received an update, not directly from Gearbox Software (the game’s developer), but from Take-Two Interactive (publisher 2K’s parent company). Almost two months have passed since the initial reveal of Borderlands 4. Since then, there hasn’t been a second trailer or any specific word about the release date beyond confirming that it will be available on PC, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X this year. Although we still don’t have an exact release date, the potential launch window has been narrowed down.
Based on information from Take-Two Interactive, Grand Theft Auto 6 is planned to come out before Borderlands 4. This implies that Borderlands 4 won’t be launched until sometime after fall at the earliest, and it will likely release with a significant gap from GTA 6, as Take-Two Interactive aims to distribute its games at an interval.
As a gaming enthusiast, if Grand Theft Auto 6 drops in September, I’m sure it’ll be pushing Borderlands 4 to at least October, maybe even later. If GTA 6 launches in October, I reckon we won’t see Borderlands 4 until November at the earliest.
To put it simply, this suggests that Borderlands 4 is unlikely to launch before the fall of 2025 at the absolute earliest, and more likely towards the end of the year. This differs from Borderlands 3, which was released on September 13, 2019. While it’s not certain, it seems that Borderlands 4 might be delayed until November or potentially October if GTA 6 comes out early in September. However, December is also a possibility, although it’s less common for major AAA video games to release during this month, and Take-Two Interactive typically doesn’t release games in December.
Regardless of the circumstances, Take-Two Interactive has assured us that details about Borderlands 4 will be unveiled shortly, so fans of the series can expect to learn more particulars soon.
