Borderlands 4 – State of Play Deep Dive, ‘Gameplay’ trailer

2K Publisher and creators, Gearbox Software, unveiled an in-depth 20-minute look and fresh gameplay trailer for the upcoming title, Borderlands 4, during today’s live PlayStation State of Play event.

Here are the latest details:

In the recently released gameplay videos, players got their first glimpse of two out of the four fresh Vault Hunters set to appear in Borderlands 4. Among them is Vex, a potent Siren who can boost herself or generate lethal specters to join her in battle. The other is Rafa, an Exo-Soldier previously part of the Tediore army, now equipped with an experimental exosuit that allows for the instant fabrication of numerous weapons. Each Vault Hunter presents a distinct gameplay style, with these styles being enhanced even more through the most sophisticated skill tree system ever seen in a Borderlands game.

On the expansive, interconnected world of Kairos, adventurers will confront the oppressive Timekeeper. This malevolent figure has concealed the planet for millennia, enslaving its populace with cybernetic implants called Bolts and an army of synthetic soldiers called The Order. Players will traverse the planet, meeting new and familiar characters, creatures, and inhabitants to combat. They’ll also encounter distinct factions in four regions, all striving for freedom from the Timekeeper’s tyranny. As allies join the players on their journey, they can be enlisted to the cause, while enemies will witness the might of the Vault Hunters’ weapons and powers.

In the thrilling video presented at PlayStation’s State of Play event, Vex and Rafa are depicted carving a path through a covert facility nestled within the frozen peaks of Terminus Range. This extended gameplay clip highlights the enhanced power of the revamped gear system in Borderlands 4, setting the stage for an exhilarating quest for loot, the likes of which have never been seen before.

  • Deadly weapons from across eight new and returning manufacturers, each boasting their own devastating strengths.
  • Licensed Parts system that combines the behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers into a single weapon.
  • Enhancements gear slot to augment weapons based on their manufacturer, rewarding extra firepower with an optimized gear loadout.
  • Ordnance, a shared slot for Grenades and Heavy Weapons like rocket launchers, recharges on a cooldown to keep you locked and loaded during especially tough encounters.
  • Rep Kit gear adds utility by letting players heal themselves or activate temporary buffs to help turn the tide of an intense battle.

In Borderlands 4, it’s simpler than ever for friends to dive into collaborative multiplayer, thanks to a fresh system that allows players to create online parties and maintain their group as they transition between game modes. The game is crafted with cooperative play in mind from the start, featuring personalized loot, adaptive level progression, and individual difficulty settings to ensure the party stays united and entertained throughout the entire campaign.

The highly-anticipated game, Borderlands 4, will be released on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and both the Steam and Epic Games Store on PC. A version for Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to follow in late 2025.
