Borderlands 4’s New Release Date is “Zero Percent” About Other Games, Says Gearbox CEO

Due to an earlier announcement by Gearbox, there’s been much talk about the new release date for Borderlands 4, as it may clash with other possible launches. Since its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, wants to keep a distance from Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 at launch, some think that GTA 6 might drop in late September or early October instead.

Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, didn’t directly address the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, but he did clarify that it isn’t influenced by competition. He mentioned on Twitter that the early release of Borderlands 4 is solely due to confidence in the game and the development process, supported by actual task completion rates and bug fixes.

As a dedicated follower, I’d like to clarify that our decision has absolutely nothing to do with the release dates of any other products, either currently available or in development. This new release we’re talking about isn’t connected to Bungie’s Marathon, scheduled for September 23rd, in any way.

In a recent tweet, Pitchford described the project’s advancement as an “ideal situation” and stated that the team is hard at work, or “stirring the pot.” Today at 2 PM PDT, we’ll unveil more details during the State of Play broadcast, which will feature approximately 20 minutes of fresh gameplay. The audience can anticipate glimpses of new missions, weapons, and characters, along with some recognizable figures making an appearance.

On September 12th, Borderlands 4 will be released for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, personal computers, and Nintendo Switch 2. You can watch the video featuring the brand-new Vault Hunters by clicking here.
