Borderlands Getting Digital Release Just Weeks After Arriving in Theaters

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of video game adaptations that have left us all scratching our heads. The recent release of Borderlands, the much-anticipated movie adaptation of the beloved looter-shooter franchise, has been no exception to this rule.

The movie adaptation of “Borderlands” has been out in theaters for slightly more than a week now, but it’s set to release digitally as early as August 30th. While we don’t know if this move by Lionsgate is related to the film’s box office performance or not, it could suggest a limited theater run. If you’re among the gamers eager to catch “Borderlands” on the big screen, make sure to do so quickly!

The movie “Borderlands” has swiftly demonstrated itself as both a critical and financial flop. Initially, it received a shockingly poor rating of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, which has since climbed to 10%. However, critical acclaim doesn’t always translate into box office success. In its debut weekend, “Borderlands” grossed only $16.5 million worldwide, with $8.8 million earned in the U.S., and $7.7 million from international sales. We don’t have second-weekend figures yet, but given the strong showing of “Alien: Romulus” for Disney, it’s highly improbable that the earnings for “Borderlands” will improve significantly amidst heightened competition.

The current situation doesn’t look promising for another “Borderlands” movie. Director Eli Roth has hinted at the possibility of a sequel, while Krieg’s actor, Florian Munteanu, expressed his interest in a prequel. However, it appears that a prequel might be more probable. It’s conceivable that “Borderlands” could potentially reach a larger audience through digital platforms, but it seems rather improbable at the moment.

As a dedicated Borderlands fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the future of our favorite loot-shooting franchise. Despite the hurdles in bringing the Borderlands movie to life, it seems that our prayers have been answered – Borderlands 4 is officially underway!
