Box Office: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Tracking for One of the Biggest September Openings of All Time

As a die-hard fan of Tim Burton’s fantastical world, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Having grown up with the original 1988 classic, it’s an absolute delight to see the return of Michael Keaton as the iconic Betelgeuse, alongside the inimitable Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. With a projected opening weekend of $80 million, this sequel is shaping up to be one of the biggest September box office hits ever!

Title with the Most Spirited: Tim Burton’s long-anticipated follow-up to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton as the titular character, is projected to make a whopping $80 million during its opening weekend in theaters on September 6th. According to data from insights and forecasting firm National Research Group, this sequel featuring Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Jenna Ortega is set to have one of the largest debuts for a film released in September.

Warner Bros. Studio anticipates that “Beetlejuice 2” will debut with earnings between $65 million and $75 million during its first weekend, as reported by Deadline. This would position the film among the highest-grossing opening weekends for the month and boast the largest PG-13 box office launch since 2021.

1. In 2017, the R-rated film “It” took the top spot with $123.4 million, and “It: Chapter Two” from 2019 came in second with $91 million. The PG-13 Marvel Studios movie, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which debuted with $75 million over the Labor Day weekend in 2021 amidst a pandemic, broke the record set by 2007’s “Halloween.” If Keaton’s trickster demon movie performs well, it could push “Shang-Chi” down to fourth place.

Joining Keaton, along with other familiar faces such as Ryder as Lydia Deetz and O’Hara as the recently widowed Delia Deetz, we have Ortega (from Burton’s Wednesday) playing Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) portraying Lydia’s husband Rory, Monica Bellucci (known for The Matrix films) as Delores, Beetlejuice’s ex-wife, Arthur Conti (debuting in features with House of the Dragon), Danny DeVito (Batman Returns) in an unspecified role, and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as the deceased detective Wolf Jackson.

36 years since the “bio-exorcist” known as Beetlejuice was initially called upon at the now-deceased Maitlands’ home, we find ourselves in a poignant moment following an unforeseen family catastrophe – the demise of Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones).

1. In a twist of events, the Deetz clan, spanning three generations, journey back to Winter River. There, Lydia, tormented by Betelgeuse, experiences a life-altering incident when her defiant teenage child stumbles upon an enigmatic blueprint of the town in the loft and unintentionally activates a gateway to the Beyond. As turmoil escalates in two worlds, it’s just a matter of time before someone carelessly invokes Beetlejuice three times, summoning the trickster spirit to stir up chaos of his unique kind.

Warner Bros. recalls Beetlejuice from the Neitherworld for a theater release on September 6th.
