Brandon Routh Returns in Hilarious Horror Comedy ‘Ick’ Trailer

In a fresh twist, the beloved actor who played Superman from the 2000s is venturing into horror comedy with a power so vile it’s bound to disgust and repel viewers. Brandon Routh, known for his portrayal of the Man of Steel in the 2006 film “Superman Returns”, is returning with renewed vigor in the upcoming movie titled “Ick”. The latest trailer, just unveiled, perfectly captures director Joseph Kahn’s gritty, creature-filled period piece set to hit theaters this July.

In the upcoming horror-comedy movie, titled “The Ick,” Routh, Malina Weissman (from Netflix’s famous “A Series of Unfortunate Events”), and Mena Suvari are the main characters. The film’s plot revolves around a sticky, vine-like organism called “The Ick” that has insidiously infiltrated various aspects of American life. The townsfolk of Eastbrook seem unperturbed by its presence. In this movie, Routh portrays Hank, a former high school football star turned science teacher, while Weissman plays Grace, a sharp student who gets embroiled in her mother Staci’s (played by Suvari) hidden secrets.

Experiencing a thrilling journey filled with a lively punk energy, ICK offers a rollercoaster of fun and laugh-out-loud gruesomeness, paying tribute to classic PG horror movies from the past, while also serving as a musical salute to Millennial nostalgia through song selections by Green Day, Paramore, and Blink 182.

From One Superman to Another

Brandon Routh, once again in the spotlight following his portrayal of Superman, offers fans an opportunity to reconsider his work in the iconic role. The movie “Superman Returns” signifies the return of Superman to the silver screen since the less-popular “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.” Routh’s depiction of Kal El serves as a heartwarming tribute to Christopher Reeve’s cherished first two Superman films, and it certainly achieves that goal. He reprised his character during The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event in a version of the hero inspired by the comic “Kingdom Come.

In a nostalgic nod, the much-adored “Superman Returns” not only acknowledged its predecessors and the pre-CGI era but also paved the way for how a Superman film could appear in contemporary Hollywood. With Zack Snyder’s rule concluded and Henry Cavill handing off the cape to James Gunn’s Man of Steel, now played by David Corenswet, viewers fondly remember Routh’s significant stride in the evolution of the flying hero. From a former Superman to a former football star, audiences are eagerly awaiting Routh’s side-splitting performance in an upcoming 2000s satire horror film, filled with hits from the millennial playlist like Wheatus and The Plain What T’s.
