Breakout Beyond announced for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC

Developers Choice Provisions and Publisher Atari have unveiled a fresh take on the classic game Breakout entitled “Breakout Beyond,” set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (Steam), and Atari VCS in 2025.

Here is an overview of the game, via Atari:

About

In a fresh twist on the classic Breakout series, the game Breakout Beyond encourages players to push past barriers and make their way to the other side. This innovative addition to the Breakout universe presents players not only with the task of shattering every brick, but also with the challenge of devising clever strategies to surpass obstacles by building up scores with strategic combos. The game Breakout Beyond offers a unique sideways viewpoint, 72 levels for players to conquer, and a cooperative mode that allows two players to play together, sharing the thrilling brick-breaking experience.

In this modern take on the 1976 arcade game “Breakout”, players shatter their way through each level by demolishing bricks to reach the end. But things have been reversed – horizontally! Players now advance sideways, breaking down obstacles and creating combos that intensify the game’s effects, with skilled players being treated to a breathtaking light display. Clearing special blocks gives players powerful perks such as massive brick-clearing explosions, a protective shield for the ball, and a laser gun to pave the way. Each of these features showcases dynamic visuals that haven’t been seen before in “Breakout”.

72 tough levels are ready to test your brick-breaking abilities! Even though the difficulty might push you close to your limits, you won’t have to confront the challenge all by yourself. Instead, you can team up with another player for some local two-player cooperative gameplay and conquer the chaos together. Additionally, a new focus mode is available that slows down time, providing more control at the cost of a higher score.

Key Features

  • Unlockable endless mode with an online global leaderboard.
  • 72 challenging levels that will put players’ brick-breaking skills to the test.
  • Two-player cooperative play to manage (or ramp up) the chaos with a friend.
  • Procedural audio and visual effects that increase in intensity with each combo.
