As someone who’s been dabbling in Brighter Shores for a while now, let me tell you, this game is a real rollercoaster ride! From the stunning visuals to the grind-heavy gameplay, it’s got all the makings of a classic MMO.
As a passionate enthusiast, I dived into the world of Brighter Shores, initially expecting just another routine grind from beginning to end, given its creator’s background in RuneScape. However, upon closer inspection, it’s clear that there’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye at first glance. While it largely maintains the familiar rhythm of its predecessor, there are innovative elements hidden within that are easy to overlook.
To assist you in understanding the initial phases of this ongoing game, this guide provides useful suggestions and strategies to alleviate any questions or concerns you may encounter (or may face later on).
Our Best Tips & Tricks for Newbies
At the outset, it’s important to note that the subsequent advice might not be immediately applicable. You can comfortably disregard these points until you’ve invested several hours into your work. However, rest assured, they will prove useful later on.
Tip #1 – Modify Your UI
As a gamer, I’ve found that this game offers a good deal of personalization when it comes to its interface. To streamline your gaming experience, take note of the arrows located at the extremities of your screen – these will save you from having to click multiple times.
As a devoted player, I’d like to share a tip that streamlines gameplay significantly: pressing the designated key will summon up essential menus, such as your inventory, map, professions, and quest list. This feature is incredibly beneficial during specific grinding sessions, as it allows for easy checks on your inventory status (like determining if it’s full), or if you’re nearing a knowledge point acquisition (which I’ll explain further later).
Additionally, these menus are adjustable in size. To alter their dimensions, move your mouse pointer to the edge. Your cursor will transform into a two-headed arrow icon, signaling that you can drag it to resize the menu. Here’s an illustrative example showing both menus expanded and adjusted to different sizes:
Tip #2 – Learn Where to Store Items!
Regularly emptying out your inventory is quite crucial. If you’ve ever played RuneScape, chances are you’re accustomed to storing excess items in a “bank” during your grinding sessions.
In the game Brighter Shores, just like here, sound inventory management is crucial because it can greatly impact your productivity over time. Regrettably, managing items within this game can sometimes be a bit tricky or complex to handle effectively.
Fortunately, we provide a handy tutorial for storing game items. In essence, here’s a brief overview of key points to remember:
- Storage containers will have a wardrobe/cabinet icon in the map, making them very easy to find once you finish exploring.
- Most professions that involve creating stuff (e.g. alchemy and carpentry) will usually have a storage container in the same or adjacent room where it is trained.
- Weapons & armor are stored at the Quartermaster in the first region. You can access this remotely using the Quartermaster spell that you get very early in the game.
- Resources from gathering professions (e.g. forager, gatherer, fisher, woodcutter) are usually stored in the place where they are used for other skills. For instance, the materials from both forager and gatherer professions usually go in the Potions Reagents storage container.
Tip #3 – Try to Get Level 20 In Every Profession ASAP
Once you reach the milestone of level 20 in any career, you’ll have the opportunity to utilize “skill points”. You accumulate these naturally, regardless of whether you’re engaged in combat or other activities.
Whenever the advancement in your professional knowledge reaches 100%, you’ll be prompted to invest it in a selection of different perks. Here are the options available for you to pick:
- A small amount of money
- EXP for any profession that is at least level 20
- Unlock a passive training method for any profession, as long as you have the required level for it
It’s evident that reaching level 20 in all your professions allows you to indirectly develop certain skills just by having them, without actually performing the tasks themselves. Alternatively, it can drastically reduce tedious, time-consuming tasks like the level 32 carpentry requirement for a particular quest.
In this advice, the word “try” is particularly important. If you’re feeling exhausted while focusing on one profession and aiming for level 20, don’t force yourself to continue if it becomes too much. Instead, take a break and switch to another activity until you feel refreshed and ready to return to it.
Tip #4 – Combat Professions Are (Currently) King
Based on the earlier advice, right now, engaging in combat-related professions is proving to be an effective method for earning money and simultaneously enhancing other skills. It’s interesting to note that combat seems to provide a significant amount of knowledge point advancement with minimal exertion.
You might make progress of up to 3%, or more, by defeating creatures that are lower than your level. If you fight opponents at your own level, the advancements could be even greater. These battles often happen quickly, so you can receive substantial experience boosts almost every few minutes without any additional cost.
Apart from the learning experiences, you’ll also earn a substantial sum of money for each kill without having to invest anything initially. Additionally, potential gear drops enhance this, and if you engage opponents at appropriate levels, you can progressively improve your own equipment throughout the process.
Currently, there’s no sign they plan to make changes immediately. For now, since the developers don’t find it excessively flawed, you might want to maximize your fun and progress using the effective training combat system, as it could potentially be adjusted or balanced in the future.
Additionally, we’ve prepared a resource on combats within Brighter Shores, which includes some extra strategies that could prove useful to you. Feel free to explore it if combat is going to be your primary method for leveling up!
Tip #5 – Get Level 32 Carpentry!
The purpose of the disclaimer at the beginning of the guide was to provide you with important information. As you progress and reach episode 2, it’s suggested that you aim to obtain level 32 in carpentry as soon as possible. This is one of the prerequisites for a quest that will reward you with the unique ability to store items without needing to visit a storage container.
As a passionate enthusiast, I’d suggest interspersing carpentry learning with your daily routine to keep things interesting. By the time you reach level 20 in carpentry, you can let knowledge points automatically enhance it, helping you maintain momentum without exhaustion.
Closing Tip – Just Have Fun
Currently, Brighter Shores is in its pre-release stage, and it’s evident to those who spend a significant amount of time with it that there’s a noticeable lack of rewards or motivations to persist through higher levels. At the moment, the primary activity seems to be repetitively increasing numbers without any substantial benefits attached.
As I delve deeper into this game, I might consider upgrading to a premium membership to gain access to fresh zones and activities. This could be just what I need when the excitement wanes due to repetition as I journey through the second region.
