As a gamer who grew up in the late ’90s and early 2000s, the news about Britney Spears‘ biopic has me all nostalgic! I remember dancing to her songs during sleepovers with friends, singing along to “Oops!… I Did It Again” at the top of our lungs. Now, seeing her take charge of her own story is truly inspiring.
Britney Spears is collaborating with Universal Pictures to bring her biopic, inspired by her memoir “The Woman In Me,” to the big screen. This memoir, published last October, has sold over 2.5 million copies in America and quickly claimed the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list upon release. The book went on to become Simon & Schuster’s largest-selling nonfiction hardcover of 2023.
The memoir narrates Britney Spears’ rise to fame, tracing her path from her time in the Mickey Mouse Club to becoming a renowned pop star as a teenager. The book delves into the public struggles and obstacles she encountered during her career, including her divorce, conservatorship, and relationship with Justin Timberlake, leaving no stone unturned. As suggested by the book’s summary, “Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’ groundbreaking memoir sheds light on the enduring power of music and love–and the significance of a woman sharing her story in her own voice, finally.”
“On her social media, Spears announced to her followers about a clandestine collaboration she has been engaged in with Marc Platt. Known for his work on some of my all-time favorite films, I can’t wait to share more details soon.”
Since ending her conservatorship about three years back, Britney Spears has generally stayed out of the public eye. However, she’s found other ways to engage with fans and express her free-spirited nature through social media. Despite this, she hasn’t been immune to criticism, as was evident when she criticized Halsey over her new single “Lucky” and its music video. In a now-deleted post, Spears expressed that she felt Halsey had harassed, violated, and bullied her. But soon after, she showed support for the Grammy-nominated artist, with Halsey replying, “I love Britney!! You were the first person who ever made me realize what it means to feel inspired. And you continue to inspire me every day.”
Jon M. Chu has taken charge of movies such as “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Now You See Me 2,” “Good Trouble,” and “In The Heights.” Upcoming is “Wicked,” featuring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erevo, and Jonathan Bailey. Before its autumn premiere, news broke that a second Wicked film has already been given the go-ahead for production, surprising fans who anticipated one big project. Instead, Chu decided to divide the movie into two parts to secure the longevity of the Wicked series.
