As a longtime observer of reality television and human relationships, I have seen my fair share of splits and reconciliations. However, the story of Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor is one that stands out to me for its complexity and emotional depth.
Brittany Cartwright is sharing more insight behind her decision to end her marriage to Jax Taylor.
Previously featured on ‘Vanderpump Rules’, the individual in question has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to file for divorce from her former spouse, who is also the father of their shared child, 3-year-old Cruz.
In a recent episode of their podcast “When Reality Hits With Jax and Brittany,” Cartwright clarified that while some people online speculated that his decision to file was a publicity stunt or ratings grab, it couldn’t be further from the truth. He emphasized that he did not make this decision lightly or hastily.
On August 27th, the 35-year-old initiated a divorce proceeding from Taylor, who is 45, following five years of matrimony and six months after they publicly announced their separation as co-stars on the show “Valley.”
After years of building up the courage and strength within myself, I finally took action to leave a harmful relationship and recognize my own value, as expressed by Cartwright on the podcast. Although it was challenging, I’ve never been stronger, and my primary inspiration is my son – he deserves a joyful and healthy mother like me.

The 35-year-old woman has shared the reasons behind her decision to legally separate from her former partner, who is also her co-star on Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules” spinoff “The Valley,” and the father of their son named Cruz, aged 3.
“In their online comments, many people speculate that this is just a publicity move for the show or to boost ratings, but let me clarify, this couldn’t be further from the truth,” Cartwright explained during the August 30th episode of the podcast When Reality Hits With Jax and Brittany. “My choice to file wasn’t taken lightly or impulsively.”
On August 27th, Cartwright initiated a divorce proceeding from Taylor (aged 45), marking the end of their five-year marriage that followed six months after they publicly declared their separation, as former ‘Vanderpump Rules’ cast members.
Over time, it has required immense courage and strength for me to reach this stage where I could make the right decisions for myself, escape a harmful relationship, and ultimately recognize my value. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve never felt stronger, and my driving force is my son, my precious one, who deserves a mommy who is joyful and in good health. (Cartwright, on the podcast)
Cartwright also said that “moving forward, Jackson and I will be doing the podcast separately.”
In her divorce filing, Cartwright stated that she and Jax have been apart since the end of January, citing “insurmountable disagreements” as the cause for their split. She sought primary legal and physical custody of their child, with Jax being granted visitation rights. Additionally, Cartwright asked to end any potential spousal support payments for both parties.
Her podcast comments mark the first time she has spoken in detail about her decision to file for divorce. Soon after submitting the papers, Cartwright had offered fans a hint about her well-being, writing on Instagram alongside a new pic of herself, “Getting my sparkle back.”

Prior to their marriage, it was back in 2017 that Jax Taylor was unfaithful to Brittany Cartwright, having a relationship with the former SUR waitress, Faith Stowers.
Jax confessed he had been in a similar situation before, when he was found cheating. Previously, he spent extended periods denying any wrongdoing, but this strategy didn’t prove effective for him.
However, though Brittany parted ways with him after being devastated, they rekindled their relationship several months afterward and tied the knot in 2020.
Skip ahead to February 2024, Brittany publicly declared that she and Jax, parents to their 2-year-old child named Cruz, had parted ways following four years of matrimony.
The speaker, hailing from Kentucky, expressed that marriages can be extremely challenging and they’ve faced a particularly tough year. On their podcast When Reality Hits , they revealed that they and their partner are taking some time apart. To prioritize their mental well-being, they decided to move into a different residence.
Brittany remarked, “I’m dealing with things one day at a time.” She admitted, “I can’t predict the future, but for now, I’m concentrating on giving Cruz the best motherly care I can provide.”
A month down the line, the fissures in my recommended couple’s bond grew increasingly evident as Bravo unveiled the tantalizing trailer for their fresh series titled “The Valley“.
Brittany confessed in the March 11 sneak peek that she doesn’t sense his romantic feelings towards her and they never engage in intimate moments. Later on, Jax lamented, “Being married can be tough at times.”
Plus, costar Janet Caperna teased in the clip, “There’s a rumor about Jax cheating online.”
However, Jax slammed allegations of infidelity days after the trailer release.
He shared with TopMob News at The Valley premiere party on March 14 that there are some minor difficulties in their communication at the moment. He emphasized that this is the only issue, and there’s nothing else to worry about. He assured that there’s no cheating or infidelity involved. Instead, it’s all about communication. Although it might seem surprising, sometimes people simply don’t see eye-to-eye, and that’s just a part of life.
In our daily lives, I consistently cross paths with you, and yet, our living arrangements differ slightly – we simply have separate bedrooms. Nothing more to it.
Contrary to speculation, Brittany clarified that Jax’s infidelity was not the reason for their split, and she disclosed the accurate sequence of events leading up to their separation instead.
35-year-old shared with TopMob News on March 18 that we had a severe argument which led me to gather my belongings and leave. Since January 24, I’ve been residing in an Airbnb.
She mentioned, “I’m taking this action to maintain my mental well-being. I’m quite confident about my choice to step away for a bit.”
Regardless of their personal issues, the separated pair concurred on a single point: They were making decisions that were in the best interest of their 2-year-old child.
Jax made it clear to TopMob that he’s undeniably number one, a fact they both concur on. It’s all about understanding he has two devoted parents who adore him immensely, ensuring he lives his best life, regardless of whether they remain together or not.
Regarding the escalating conflicts, Brittany concurred, “I simply wish not to have that lifestyle for our son. I don’t want him to perceive such a life as normal.”
Brittany admitted in March that “there’s always hope,” but she just needs Jax to put in the work.
Brittany told TopMob that she doesn’t believe anyone else will ever love Jax as deeply as she has. Over the years, they’ve shared so much together, and she’s been by his side through thick and thin. If he makes some changes she’s asked for, there might be a chance for them to reconcile. But for now, she needs time to focus on herself. She feels powerful and proud of herself for taking this step, and her mental well-being is a top priority.
One person who wasn’t so shocked by Jax and Brittany’s separation? Their former SUR boss Lisa Vanderpump.
The former Real Housewife mentioned that everyone had anticipated their marriage wouldn’t last, as she put it on TopMob. They commented, “‘This won’t endure for long,’ but she tended to avoid making hasty judgments.
She mentioned that she wasn’t certain about the cause, but suspects it might have been related to Jax’s misconduct. Typically, one can predict future actions based on past ones.
Speaking to TopMob News on March 23, their long-standing companion Scheana Shay expressed her belief that the breakup was for the best. She further stated that her friend deserves someone who will value and respect her.
And the couple’s The Valley costar Kristen Doute agreed with Scheana.
Kristen acknowledged that she’s proud of Brittany for establishing boundaries for herself, but she’s optimistic that they can resolve their issues. However, she emphasized that it’s up to Jax, not Brittany, to make it happen.
In the final episode of June on the 4th, Brittany challenged Jax over the supposed derogatory remarks he made towards her in private settings.
According to costar Kristen Doute, he acknowledged saying things like, “I understand I treat you poorly. I recognize I can be harsh. I admit to calling you names such as ‘fat’ and ‘lazy’, and telling you that you won’t have any friends if you two split up.”
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News in June, Brittany explained that we had discussed the possibility of trying things out with other people if we felt like it. She acknowledged that this approach might seem unusual or even a bit crazy to many, but it was our intention.
In July, Jax openly announced that he was entering residential treatment for mental health concerns, following years of pleas from Brittany for him to attend therapy sessions.
The VPR alum mainly credited son Cruz as the reason he saught professional help.
In a post on Instagram, dated July 31st, Jax expressed his dedication to improving himself for someone special, writing, “Working hard to be better for you,” accompanied by a heartwarming photo of him planting a kiss on the little one’s cheek. The caption concluded with, “I adore you.”
Seven months after they parted ways, Brittany legally ended the relationship by filing for divorce in August 2024. In court documents obtained by TopMob, she stated “irreconcilable differences” as the reason and sought primary legal and physical custody of their three-year-old son Cruz. She also requested that Jax be given visitation rights.
