Bruce Springsteen the movie…

As a lifelong connoisseur of music and cinema, steeped in the rich tapestry of both, the news of “Deliver Me from Nowhere” sends ripples of excitement coursing through my soul. The prospect of witnessing the cinematic manifestation of Bruce Springsteen‘s artistic odyssey during the making of his seminal album “Nebraska” is nothing short of intoxicating.

The upcoming movie, titled “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” is a highly anticipated adaptation of Warren Zanes’ captivating book about the creation of Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 album, “Nebraska.” Set for release in cinemas in 2025, this film is written and directed by Scott Cooper, known for his work on “Crazy Heart,” “Hostiles,” “Antlers,” and “Black Mass.” In the lead role as the talented musician navigating an emotional recording process for “Nebraska” is Jeremy Allen White, best known from shows like “The Bear,” “The Iron Claw,” and “Shameless.

Speaking about the start of film production, Cooper shared, “This is a deeply humbling and exhilarating experience for me.” He went on to say that Bruce Springsteen’s album, “Nebraska,” has had a profound impact on his artistic perspective. The album’s gritty, truthful portrayal of life’s struggles and perseverance speaks directly to him. The film aims to embody the same spirit, adapting Warren Zanes’ captivating account of Bruce’s life for the screen with honesty and optimism, while respecting Bruce’s legacy through a transformative cinematic experience. It has been a privilege to work alongside Bruce and Jon [Landau] as we tell their story, and their creative drive fuels every aspect of this venture. Additionally, I’m thrilled to be working with my friend David Greenbaum again as he takes on his new role at Disney, adding yet another layer of motivation to this project.

Over the past two years, White has been consecutively awarded Golden Globe, SAG, Critics’ Choice, and Emmy honors for his exceptional performance in FX’s popular show “The Bear”. In the upcoming movie “Deliver Me from Nowhere”, White will be joined by a multitude of skilled, award-winning actors.

  • Jeremy Strong stars as Springsteen’s long-time mentor and manager, Jon Landau.
  • Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird,” “Richard Jewell”) portrays guitar tech Mike Batlan.
  • Odessa Young (“Mothering Sunday,” “The Staircase”) is young Faye, a formative love interest in Springsteen’s life.
  • Sir Stephen Graham (“Young Woman and the Sea,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) plays Springsteen’s father.
  • Johnny Cannizzaro (“Quantum Leap,” “Jersey Boys”) joins the cast as The E Street Band member Stevie Van Zandt.

After the “The River Tour” in 1981, the creation of “Nebraska” signified a significant period in Bruce Springsteen’s life. He didn’t discuss it openly until many years after its release, but it has since become a crucial milestone in his musical journey and an influential piece for numerous artists and musicians who followed. This album was produced using a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom, without The E Street Band, and is widely regarded as one of his most lasting works. It’s a strikingly raw and haunting acoustic record filled with characters seeking solace and hope.

Among well-known residents hailing from South Jersey, Springsteen continues to leave a significant imprint at the Jersey Shore, often seen visiting local businesses such as shops, pizzerias, bars, eateries, and music spots. The filming for “Deliver Me from Nowhere” is primarily set in locations across New Jersey, New York, and Los Angeles.
