As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for animation and a soft spot for heartwarming stories, I must say the Buffalo Kids trailer has piqued my interest. Having grown up on tales of orphaned children finding their way in the world (think Oliver Twist, Annie, and even the recent Matilda remake), this film seems to be right up my alley.
Arriving in your mailbox is a trailer for the new animated adventure movie titled “Buffalo Kids,” directed by Pedro Solis & Juan Jesús García Galoch (also known as “Galo”), who were behind the successful international Spanish animation production “Mummies.” The film “Buffalo Kids” features an impressive voice cast, including Alisha Weir (“Matilda: The Musical,” “Abigail”), Conor Macneill (“The Tourist,” “Industry”), Gemma Arterton (“Criminals,” “The Critic,” “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”), Stephen Graham (“Bodies,” “Peaky Blinders” and “Snatch”), and Sean Bean (“Game of Thrones,” “The Martian,” and “The Lord of the Rings”).
1886 finds me, Mary Weir, along with my brother Tom Macneill, setting sail from Ireland, orphaned and full of uncertainty. Landing in New York City aboard an ocean liner, we embark on an unpredictable cross-country journey via the transcontinental “Orphan Train.” Along the way, we forge a bond with an extraordinary companion who will indelibly alter our lives. Fueled by curiosity, camaraderie, and cooperation, our perilous yet exhilarating journey unfolds, introducing us to cunning villains, unlikely allies, unsuspected champions, and unforeseen escapades on a rollercoaster ride of emotions – part laughter, part tears – in our quest for a place we can call home.
The screenplay for this script was jointly penned by Jordi Gasull and Javier Barreira, both of whom have previously won the Goya Award for Best Screenplay, specifically for their work on “Tad, The Lost Explorer”.
In a fascinating twist, Gasull, who has triumphed three times at the Goya Awards for Best Animated Film with “Tad: The Lost Explorer”, “Capture the Flag”, and “Tad, The Lost Explorer, and The Secret of King Midas”, also serves as the film’s producer. Notably, Pedro Solis, head of Core Animation Studio, is also the director of the Goya Award-winning short animated film “Strings”, which was a precursor to the creation of “Buffalo Kids”. To complete this creative tapestry, the film’s music is expertly crafted by Fernando Velazquez, a Goya Award winner who often collaborates with esteemed Spanish director J.A. Bayona.
Buffalo Kids will be released in UK cinemas on 11th October 2024
