Bungie has officially announced that they are postponing the launch of their upcoming PS5 and PC game, Marathon, indefinitely. No fresh release date has been given yet, but fans can expect further updates by the end of 2025.
On the official Bungie website, the developer posted: “Your feedback in comments and real-time discussions on social media and Discord has been loud and clear. We understand that more time is needed to shape Marathon into a game that truly embodies your enthusiasm. After careful deliberation with our team, we’ve decided to push back the release date from September 23rd.
Due to the additional development time, Bungie plans to provide their team with the ability to craft an immersive, high-pressure gaming experience similar to that of Marathon. Essentially, they aim to strengthen the bond between the developers and the game’s key stakeholders – the players themselves.
The strategy here is to enhance the survival aspect, expand the narrative within the Marathon universe, and incorporate additional social interactions. This upgrade aims to improve AI interactions in the PvPvE initiative, increase immersive environmental storytelling, and offer an enhanced experience for both solo and duo players.
We’ll get back to you later this Fall with updates on our progress, including the revised launch date of the game. Once again, thank you for your patience and, above all, your enthusiasm. Your valuable feedback will play a crucial role in making Marathon an exceptional gaming experience.
Initially set for launch on the PS5 and PC on the 23rd of September, the development team Bungie and their Marathon project ran into trouble when it became apparent that some of the game’s artwork had been copied without proper credit, originating from the artist known as Antireal.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that the latest Bungie development update doesn’t mention the missing artwork. Instead, they’re focusing on enhancing the game’s visual quality, deepening its tone, and providing more narrative and environmental storytelling. They also hinted at a delay, but promised to share the new release date by the end of this year.
