Over the last few weeks, the development company Bungie, known for creating marathons like Destiny, has faced criticism due to a controversy surrounding artworks. Additionally, there appears to be further disclosure about the studio’s previous internal workings, now under Sony’s ownership.
game reporter Destin Legarie has shared a fresh video containing accusations made by ex-employees of Bungie, who claim to expose an environment marked by “toxic workplace behavior, public shaming, HR prioritizing their own interests, and poor management from the top brass”.
In relation to this, sources indicate that the executive team at the studio had contemplated implementing a standard subscription model for Destiny 2’s multiplayer shooter game at one stage. However, there was strong opposition within the team, who flatly rejected this proposal. Previously, whispers about a potential subscription plan emerged in 2022.
Initially, Destiny 2 was a paid game at launch, but later evolved into a free-to-play version, offering additional paid DLC expansions and microtransactions to generate ongoing income. The video also reveals that Bungie’s team reportedly had a strong focus on finding various methods to monetize the second Destiny game.

Despite various challenges faced by Bungie in the past, they are poised to roll out Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate expansion in July. Meanwhile, the release date for Marathon has been confirmed as September.
