Following a six-month space milestone, NASA announced an extension of the astronauts’ stay beyond initial expectations. Initially, NASA intended for the duo to return in February; however, postponements in the SpaceX mission responsible for their recovery necessitated an extension, with a possible return now scheduled between March and April, as stated by NASA previously.

In February, former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Williams and Wilmore were allegedly left abandoned in space during their extended eight-month voyage. However, after his statement caused a stir, the astronauts themselves disputed Trump’s claims.

Wilmore emphasized to Anderson Cooper during an interview on February 13 that they do not feel left alone, deserted or neglected. Instead, they feel prepared and committed, not stuck or stranded.

Williams interjected during the interview that the pair were “doing pretty darn good, actually.”

She added, “We’re well-stocked with food and clothing, our team is fantastic. Granted, our stay was slightly longer than anticipated, but given that we’re both prepared for life and work aboard the International Space Station, I believe we’ve taken full advantage of the situation.

In the course of their interview, it was made clear that Wilmore and Williams would come back to Earth following the launch of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft on March 12th.
