Actor Caleb McLaughlin, known for his role in Stranger Things, shared his feelings about finishing filming the final season of this popular Netflix series. Since its debut in 2016, the show, with its blend of nostalgia and horror, has gained worldwide recognition as a cultural phenomenon. With each season, the threat from the Upside Down and its monstrous entities has grown stronger. This growth in scale is one reason why it’s taken nearly a decade to produce five seasons of Stranger Things. Given that the cast includes many young actors like Caleb McLaughlin, ten years can feel quite long.
In a conversation with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant during promotions for his new Audible Original drama series, “Sacrilege: Curse of the Mbirwi”, Caleb McLaughlin, who portrays Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things, opened up about wrapping up production on a project he’s committed to for a decade. This show has significantly impacted his life in numerous ways and he shared the profound emotions he felt during his final day of filming Stranger Things, acknowledging its deep significance to him, the cast and crew, and the devoted fanbase.
Ash Crossan has been part of Stranger Things for many years now, and there have been quite a few gaps between seasons. As we approach the finale, I’m curious to know how you feel about wrapping up Lucas’ storyline?
Caleb McLaughlin: To be honest, I’ve already experienced those emotions. Now it’s up to the fans to process them. I’m feeling fantastic. It’s truly been a blessing. Honestly, it’s hard to believe that it’s been around 10 years since I started on this show. I’ve known these people for so long, and they’re like family to me. Last year, I thought I wouldn’t cry on my last day, but I ended up bawling. It’s been a decade of love, laughter, sadness, and peace. I managed to let it all out. But honestly, I just feel incredibly grateful and happy to have been a part of something so extraordinary that has touched so many lives. For me, this show was always about my passion for art and television, but it’s been more than that for many people. It’s helped them get through tough times, given them hope, and taught them the importance of friendship. I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity or a better experience. So I’m just feeling great right now.
What McLaughlin’s Comments Tell Us About Stranger Things Season 5
McLaughlin Highlights One Of The Show’s Most Important Themes
McLaughlin doesn’t divulge many details about Stranger Things season 5, yet it’s evident that this installment carries a powerful emotional undertow. If season 5 is to surpass season 4, the emotional bonds among the characters will be crucial. The friendships and interpersonal relationships among the young group, the adults, and the teenagers serve as the binding force that keeps the show cohesive. Essentially, while we enjoy the monsters, the thrills, and the enigma, it’s our attachment to the characters that truly resonates with us.
McLaughlin’s remarks, particularly when he discusses “making new friends, trusting in friendships, and putting faith in others,” could suggest the crucial factors needed to vanquish Vecna and permanently eliminate the Upside Down. We know that powerful emotional bonds, whether to individuals or music, help the characters escape the Upside Down and break free from Vecna’s mental control. The bonds among these characters are extraordinary. Will Vecna be able to shatter these friendships?
Our Take On Lucas Sinclair’s Role In Stranger Things Season 5
Lucas’s Connection With One Particular Character Could Change Everything
In the Stranger Things series, Lucas shares strong bonds with Mike, Will, Dustin, and Eleven, yet among all his relationships, the one that stands out most significantly in the story is the one he forms with Max Mayfield, portrayed by Sadie Sink. From the moment Max debuted in season 2, Lucas felt an immediate affinity towards her. Yes, he had a romantic interest, similar to Dustin, but it transcended those feelings. He developed an instinctual trust in her, choosing to reveal the dark secrets about Hawkins, despite having taken a vow of silence.
In Stranger Things season 4, Max might have seemed isolated from Lucas (and others), but their bond is undeniable. The poignant instance in the last episode, where she pens a note to him that reads, “I’m glad you’re here,” underscores the harrowing events of Max’s second encounter with Vecna. In the darkest times, Lucas is the one who offers her solace. It’s reasonable to expect that if anyone will be instrumental in helping Max recover and play a crucial role in the upcoming final season of Stranger Things, it could very well be Lucas Sinclair, portrayed by Caleb McLaughlin.
Stranger Things season 5 arrives on Netflix in 2025.
