As a die-hard Call of Duty fan with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and frustration at the current state of affairs regarding the addition of Activision Blizzard King titles to Xbox Game Pass. On one hand, the thought of being able to revisit some of my favorite games in the series for free is incredibly appealing. On the other, Microsoft seems to be dangling these titles just out of reach, with only a select few making their way onto the service so far.
Upon Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, fans eagerly anticipated the addition of the “Call of Duty” series to Xbox Game Pass, a service that lets them play games for free and boosts player numbers. However, Microsoft has been cautious, moving slowly and only adding select “Call of Duty” games from the series so far. As of now, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III” are available, but fans are primarily interested in earlier titles and the classic multiplayer experience. There’s a possibility that these wishes might be fulfilled as whispers suggest that “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” could soon join Xbox Game Pass.
Keen-eyed enthusiasts noticed that the computer version of “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” appeared on both the Microsoft PC Store and the PC Xbox app. Moreover, it seems that almost all Call of Duty games launched prior to “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” have also found their way onto these platforms. Consequently, many gamers speculate that these titles may soon become part of Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service. However, as of now, there has been no formal announcement regarding this possibility.

Nonetheless, unless fans feel particularly eager, it’s unlikely they’ll rush to play the older “Call of Duty” titles around Christmas or New Year without any confirmation. Even though these games are available in the store, they aren’t discounted, so there’s not much motivation to buy them just yet. Given that some players might be waiting for a Game Pass release, it’s plausible to assume that the servers won’t be bustling until some announcement is made.
The full list of Call of Duty games added to the Microsoft PC Store and PC Xbox app are as follows.
- Call of Duty Call 1
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 4
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2007)
- Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Call of Duty: WWII
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- Call of Duty: Black Ops III
Microsoft’s pace in incorporating the entire game catalog from Activision Blizzard King has been leisurely. This could be a strategic move to encourage players to buy the games instead of playing them through Game Pass. However, it’s probable that most games will eventually be included, with some special cases still being considered. Notably, Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 have already been added to Blizzard’s collection, with more titles likely to join soon.
Until any official announcements are made about Call of Duty: Black Ops II and other Call of Duty games joining Game Pass, fans might need to buy the games if they want to play them immediately. Since there’s no sale and the winter holidays are just around the corner, waiting for a potential Game Pass release or price drop could be advantageous, but it does mean delaying gameplay until then. On the other hand, if you can’t wait and crave the older Call of Duty‘s multiplayer action, buying the game and diving in straight away seems like a better choice, as many players might have already done so as well.
