As someone who’s been through the trenches of every Call of Duty game since World at War, this news about Courtyard reappearing in Black Ops 6 has me all fired up! The nostalgia is real, and I can almost hear the classic “M1 Garand” sound again. If they add it as a DLC map or even better, incorporate it into Warzone, it would be the cherry on top of an already fantastic game.

It seems that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is preparing to reintroduce a beloved map from Call of Duty: World at War. The Call of Duty series, one of the most renowned franchises in gaming, boasts over 20 titles, hundreds of millions of units sold, and countless cherished gaming moments. Over the years, it has transformed significantly, starting as a World War II shooter, then moving to modern-day combat, and even venturing into the distant future with features like wall-running and jetpacks. Now, Black Ops 6 is transporting players back to the 1990s and incorporating a fresh movement system called “omnimovement,” enabling players to dive, slide, and sprint in any direction they prefer.

In contrast to Call of Duty not closely resembling its past versions, fans harbor a great deal of nostalgia for the initial releases and Activision endeavors to exploit this as much as possible. For instance, in Black Ops 6, almost everything is fresh, including the maps and mechanics; however, there are some nods to the past subtly incorporated within the game. A Call of Duty player named M3RKMUS1C took a look at hidden areas in the spectator mode of Black Ops 6, and what they discovered was that the overall design of Courtyard, a renowned map from Call of Duty: World at War, is present. This map was later remade as Dig in Black Ops 2, but a pixelated version of the original Courtyard can be found outside Skyline, one of the new maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

EXCITING DISCOVERY: Whilst delving into Black Ops 6 maps, I stumbled upon the Courtyard from World at War on the periphery of Skyline!

Do you reckon the Courtyard from WaW could potentially be incorporated as a DLC map for #BO6? @Treyarch @CallofDuty

At this moment, it’s unclear if Courtyard will return as a multiplayer map in the future. Historically, Call of Duty often reuses existing maps as post-release content to save time and effort compared to creating new ones. Fans have suggested that Courtyard might be included in the next Warzone map, given Warzone’s tendency to incorporate iconic CoD maps as points of interest. However, it remains to be seen if Courtyard will appear in the battle royale, although there’s a good chance. It’s also possible that Skyline could be part of Warzone as well, which might explain why Courtyard is visible on the map. In previous CoD games, Treyarch has excised maps like Skyline for multiplayer use.

In the coming months, we’ll probably discover more details, given that a new Warzone map might debut during season one, traditionally starting in December, as suggested by Call of Duty’s past releases. It’s also possible that Courtyard could be included in a later Warzone map. Since Activision is known for its forward-thinking approach, we can only guess what’s next. However, it’s important to note that there have been instances where planned Warzone maps didn’t materialize. So, while we speculate about these potential developments, keep in mind that they might not come to fruition within the next year. Regardless, it seems like Raven and Treyarch are working on something new; we just don’t know what exactly yet.
