What you need to know
- Treyarch pushed a patch to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on November 4 that contained, among other things, some XP rebalancing across different game modes.
- Some, such as Team Deathmatch and Control, were supposed to get a buff. Others, notably Face Off, were to be adjusted in the opposite direction.
- However, it doesn’t look like all went to plan, with significant XP reductions seen across more than the intended game modes, which if left unchecked makes levelling up through Prestige significantly more grueling.
As a long-time Call of Duty fan and analyst who has spent countless hours leveling up through Prestige, I must say that the recent update to Black Ops 6 has left me feeling like a rookie all over again. The XP rebalancing, while intended to make things fairer, seems to have swung too far in the opposite direction, making leveling up an arduous task once more.
On November 4th, as an analyst, I witnessed the rollout of the initial major post-launch update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This update was brimming with balance adjustments, primarily focusing on weapon equilibrium. Assault Rifles experienced a minor setback (though I didn’t believe Submachine Guns required further enhancement). Additionally, alterations were made to the XP gain system, aiming for a more level playing field among players.
It appears that the intended adjustments to XP were more extensive than planned. According to the patch notes, XP reduction was supposed to only affect Face Off modes, which had become a popular spot for XP farming. However, it seems that Domination and Hardpoint have experienced significant decreases in earned XP instead.

Was All XP Nerfed? from r/blackops6
According to the Reddit post mentioned earlier, I’ve encountered an identical scenario myself. Previously, even with my ordinary abilities, I used to earn around 20,000 to 25,000 XP from a good Hardpoint round during the 2XP event on Nuketown. Now, I’m finding that the XP rewards are approximately half of what they used to be.
In Domination mode, achieving 10k points with double XP no longer seems achievable as easily as before, and progressing towards Prestige 2 has become quite challenging. It’s becoming quite the struggle, even with the temporary double XP bonus that will last until later today. The main concern is that leveling up in Call of Duty is already a tough task, but if this isn’t an oversight, it will take significantly longer now.
I’m hoping this is just a misunderstanding since the game modes mentioned weren’t specifically stated in the patch notes as being impacted. So here’s to keeping my hopes high! The unfortunate part is that the last few days of the 2XP event seem to have been spoiled by this unexpected, heavy nerf. Although the event was already prolonged due to initial problems, I believe Treyarch should extend it a bit more to make up for (and hopefully restore) the correct experience rates.
But hey, at least the Recon specialization got a reduction in its legalized cheating wallhacks.
