Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 XP Token Backlash Addressed With a New Plan

As a dedicated fan who has been following the Call of Duty series for over a decade, I must say that my heart skipped a beat when Treyarch announced the removal of XP tokens from Black Ops 6. It felt like they were snatching away one of the most cherished aspects of the franchise – a decision that left many players, including myself, feeling frustrated and disappointed.

In response to criticism from fans about the change in XP tokens, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is addressing the issue. After a four-year wait since the last Black Ops game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has finally been released, much to the excitement of fans who love its arcade-style gameplay, memorable action heroes, and popular zombie mode. The game has received positive reviews so far and is one of the most played Call of Duty games, in part due to its availability on Xbox Game Pass.

Just this week, the first season of Black Ops 6 kicked off, introducing fresh maps, weapons, cosmetic items, and of course, the coveted battle pass. Despite the excitement surrounding the new season, fans have expressed disapproval due to significant changes in how certain aspects function by Treyarch and Activision this time around. For instance, in previous versions, completing the battle pass granted 1,400 COD points, allowing players to purchase the subsequent battle pass and still save some for store items. However, in Black Ops 6, players only receive 1,100 points, which is just enough for the next battle pass – leaving no extra points for additional purchases. Although players aren’t obligated to use these points for the next battle pass, it would be a wise move for those dedicated Call of Duty grinders.

At the debut of season one, players found that they had double XP tokens from past Call of Duty games at their disposal. This allowed some players to possess dozens, even hundreds of these tokens. This was especially beneficial as Black Ops 6 reintroduced the classic prestige mode, which resets players’ levels and unlocks. Initially, players took advantage of this, but Treyarch rectified the situation in a prompt update. Many were disgruntled since those XP tokens would otherwise have gone unused in previous Call of Duty games, and they pleaded with Treyarch to transfer them over. Despite potential concerns about players rapidly advancing through prestige levels and weapon levels, it seems to be what the players are asking for.

Treyarch has changed their mind and mentioned on Twitter that they’re considering bringing back the Experience (XP) tokens from earlier games. Presently, these tokens can be utilized in ‘Warzone’, and any active tokens used within the battle royale game will still function in ‘Black Ops Cold War’. This means, if you activate a 1-hour double XP token in ‘Warzone’ and then move to ‘Black Ops Cold War’ instantly, it will be effective for regular multiplayer progress as well.

Treyarch mentioned that the removal of double XP tokens was due to instability issues within the game, and they are working on finding a solution. It’s uncertain if this is a technical problem or an issue related to players advancing too quickly. They might implement a limit on the number of double XP tokens used over a specific period to address this concern. Another possibility, although potentially more frustrating, could be adjusting the amount of experience earned by players, making it take longer to level up even with the XP tokens. Hopefully, they won’t opt for that approach.

Regardless, enthusiasts can anticipate amassing a wealth of XP tokens in their inventory soon. For the present, gamers can still exploit the “Warzone” workaround to enjoy double XP advantages. However, it’s yet to be determined exactly when Treyarch will incorporate these changes directly into Black Ops 6.
