Call of Duty Season 2 Teases New Operator and AI-Generated Chaos

Activision is using social media to hint at what’s coming in Call of Duty‘s Season 2, set to release on January 28, 2025. The teasers pose the question: “Will you be the predator or the prey?

The promotional pictures suggest that the main character for Season 2 might be an enigmatic figure known as the Operator, who wears a hood, black leather coat, and a tactical vest loaded with what seem to be explosives. This character is masked and his eyes glow vividly purple. He carries dual blades, which have black handles with purple accents, and a Tanto SMG that bears similar purple detailing. As of now, this Operator remains nameless.

As a researcher delving into the upcoming Season 2 of the game, it seems plausible that the enigmatic Operator wielding a blade and cloaked in a hooded attire could serve as the initial reward for unlocking. Moreover, it’s reasonable to anticipate the inclusion of a BlackCell variant for those opting to invest in the $30 seasonal upgrade.

Looking for clues leads to frustration

Before the release of Season 2, attentive fans scrutinizing the teaser pictures picked up on peculiar details that might hint at hidden secrets. Notably, they noticed that weapon triggers appeared to pass through an Operator’s hand as if they were insubstantial, and there seemed to be smoke drifting inexplicably away from operators without any discernible pattern or explanation.

Another perspective is that it seems the Operators are leaping over skyscrapers in Warzone’s Urzikstan landscape, reminiscent of wall-running. Even though Black Ops 6 introduced a new Omnimovement system to Warzone, wall-running hasn’t made a comeback in the Call of Duty series yet. Most players still prefer traditional gameplay, but a portion of the community has expressed interest in having advanced movement on the battlefield reintroduced.

Previously, I witnessed a wave of disappointment from fans regarding the perceived flaws in AI-generated rewards and promotions during the Merry Mayhem event in Black Ops 6 and Warzone, as part of Call of Duty’s Season 1 CODmas celebrations. Despite this disapproval, it seems that their concerns have not been fully acknowledged, as Activision’s overarching company, Microsoft, persists in pouring substantial resources into AI technologies. Consequently, artificial imagery has become increasingly prevalent in the marketing materials for Call of Duty.

As a researcher delving into the intricacies of gaming, I’ve noticed an interesting discovery among the enthusiastic community on Reddit. Eagle-eyed fans of Call of Duty (COD) have spotted the PPSh and FAL in the teaser imagery, which has sparked speculation about their potential return in Season 2. Previously, Treyarch has hinted at the possibility of popular Submachine Guns from past Call of Duty: Zombies seasons making a comeback, and given this revelation, it’s plausible that the PPSh could be one such returning weapon.

Rumors and confirmations for Season 2

Initially, some content intended for Season 2 of Call of Duty wasn’t immediately released due to the team’s focus on rectifying bugs and improving anti-cheat features. However, it appears that this didn’t impact the release of a new map for Black Ops 6’s zombies mode, which was unveiled during Treyarch’s celebration of 115 Day. This new map is called “The Tomb”.

As of now, no formal announcements about Season 2 crossovers have been made. However, well-known sources within the gaming community hint that a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) themed collaboration might be under consideration. There’s also speculation that some weapons in Season 2 could draw inspiration from TMNT, with potential inclusions such as dual katanas, a bo staff, sais, and even possibly a skateboard.

The Call of Duty series has a history of unexpected collaborations, with past partnerships including Godzilla, Donnie Darko, Rambo, the cast of The Walking Dead, and more recently, Squid Game. It’s hard to predict what future collaborations might be in store for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, January 28.
