Call of Duty Series Surpasses 500 Million Units Sold

As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed the rise and fall of numerous gaming franchises. However, none have stood the test of time quite like the almighty Call of Duty! With over 500 million units sold worldwide, it’s safe to say that this franchise has become a staple in the gaming industry, rivaling even the most iconic characters such as Mario and the Tetris blocks.

For decades, the Call of Duty franchise has consistently been a top-seller, maintaining its position as one of the most successful video game franchises. Last week saw the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which Microsoft revealed to have had the series’ largest launch ever. Additionally, the franchise has also reached another significant cumulative sales milestone.

According to the Washington Post, Activision has shared that over half a billion units of the Call of Duty series have been sold globally so far, encompassing all versions released to date. It’s worth noting that popular titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile, being free-to-play games, do not contribute to this sales figure, making their achievement even more remarkable.

It’s worth noting that according to recently disclosed figures, “Call of Duty” ranks as the second best-selling video game franchise overall, trailing only behind “Mario.” However, it has now outperformed popular franchises such as “Tetris,” “Pokemon,” and “Grand Theft Auto.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
