As a seasoned Call of Duty veteran with years of gaming under my belt, I must say the unveiling of Area 99 and the return of Verdansk has me absolutely pumped! The nostalgia of revisiting Nuketown’s birthplace combined with the freshness of a new map is a combo that no gamer can resist.
This week, we got our best glimpse yet at the upcoming map for both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone, dubbed Area 99. Known as the origin of the widely recognized Nuketown map, this new map offers a variety of intriguing locations for players to discover. More details about these interesting spots were unveiled during the recent Call of Duty NEXT event. Additionally, it was confirmed that Verdansk will return to Warzone next year.
If you’re interested in getting an overview of Area 99, you can watch the video flyover of the map that is featured in Call of Duty: Warzone below. Area 99 is a scaled-down map specifically designed for the Resurgence game mode within the game. In this mode, players are given the ability to respawn after a set time period as long as at least one member of their team remains alive.
On the official Call of Duty Twitter feeds, the points of interest (POIs) are being presented in more depth with accompanying descriptions enriching the storyline of Nuketown and offering players a sneak peek into locations such as Test Site, Bunker, and others.
Moving towards the eastern part of the map, you’ll find a group of Nuketown houses. Some of these structures still show signs of their flatbeds and big rig trailers, corroded and sun-baked. These were supposed to be transported elsewhere, but years of disuse have left their mark on both the buildings and vehicles. Now, this area has transformed into a graveyard of sorts, with half-buried homes gradually swallowed by encroaching sand dunes.
Outside of all the buzz surrounding Area 99, there was a significant announcement: Verdansk is coming back! Veteran Warzone players may remember that Verdansk was the initial map available for play in the battle royale game before it underwent its Warzone 2.0 transformation. The classic Verdansk map from original Warzone matches will make a comeback in Spring 2025, though the exact date has yet to be disclosed.
The upcoming game titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops VI” is slated for a launch on October 25th. Therefore, it’s reasonable to anticipate numerous integrations related to “Warzone” around the same period.
