Recently, finding heartwarming news stories might feel challenging. Particularly with wildfires burning throughout California. Notably, Activision – the publishing company owned by Microsoft and famous for its successful Call of Duty series – declared this weekend that they will contribute $1 million to aid Californians in their battle against the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
As a researcher, I’m excited to share that not only has Activision generously donated $1M, but also, the creators of Call of Duty have introduced a new Operator pack – the LA Fire Relief Ultra bundle – in our game store. All earnings from this special edition bundle will be dedicated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Direct Relief. This is our way of supporting those affected by the fires in Los Angeles.
You can buy the LA Fire Relief Ultra package using 2400 COD points, approximately equal to a $20 purchase from Amazon. This package comes with the Plasmic operator skin for the character Payne. The Plasmic skin has a dark hazmat-style appearance, with an animated face mask showing pastel RGB-colored swirls. Additionally, the suit features moving swirls of purple, blue, and green, reminiscent of an oil slick on water. The operator is equipped with a chest ammo pack filled with glow sticks and pastel shotgun shells.
Apart from the animated operator skin, gamers will discover a special blueprint known as Null for the AK-74 assault rifle, adorned with an animated wave pattern, “Trippy” bullet trails, and a spinning vortex death effect. Additionally, a legendary blueprint, Void blueprint, is provided for the Swat 5.56 marksman rifle, featuring the same tracers and death effect. The bundle also includes a weapon charm, player emblem, weapon sticker, and in-game spray.
Those who buy the LA Fire Relief Ultra package will gain the ability to use the skin and extra items across both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Unfortunately, it’s not compatible with either Modern Warfare 3 or Modern Warfare 2.
On January 7, wildfires erupted in different parts of Los Angeles, with the initial spark in Pacific Palisades originating from a brush fire. Another blaze, known as the Eaton Fire, was ignited in a forest canyon north of downtown LA. In total, 31 wildfires have ravaged across LA, fueled by dry weather and strong winds. The combined impact of the Palisades and Eaton fires has tragically claimed at least 27 lives, destroyed over 37,000 acres, and more than 16,000 buildings.
As a tech-savvy individual, I’m closely monitoring the devastating wildfires that continue to rage in the region. Over 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to these fires. Even after the flames are extinguished, the lingering ash could potentially pose further health concerns for those affected. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for everyone’s safety and a swift return to normalcy.
Although Microsoft has acquired Activision, the company’s main office and Treyarch studio (responsible for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6) are situated in Santa Monica, which is part of Los Angeles County, California. On LinkedIn, Activision affirmed that they were aiding employees privately as well, stating, “We understand that returning to some normality in Los Angeles will be a lengthy process. We appreciate the efforts of our first responders and our employees who have been supporting each other significantly. We will continue to offer private assistance to those affected, as required.
