As a veteran gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the current state of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 leaves me feeling more like a disappointed parent than an avid player. It’s disheartening to see people waste their hard-earned money on hacks and cheats to inflate their progress in a competitive game, rather than embracing the joy of the grind like the rest of us.
From the get-go, let me make this clear: If you resort to cheating in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it won’t anger me, but I will feel a sense of disappointment. In all honesty, it’s disheartening that some people spend real money on hacks to expedite their progress on a competitive game, rather than embracing the challenge of the grind like many others do.
To put it simply, Team Ricochet, who are responsible for Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system, have provided some updates about the ongoing situation in Black Ops 6’s ranked mode, which has been active for roughly a week now.
On the face of it, it reads like good news.

It was inevitable, as many had predicted, that once the ranked mode was removed, an influx of cheaters would appear, just as one might expect in a game where this pattern has been seen before.
19,000 seems substantial, yet considering the player count, it’s more like a tiny ripple in a vast sea. Though such actions are always appreciated, it falls short of the impact I’d expect. To be clear, I’m not a developer, but if Ricochet functioned as intended, this situation wouldn’t arise.
I’m glad they are making an effort to maintain the authenticity of the leaderboards. Within just one day, several individuals had climbed into the top 250 rankings, leading many to suspect them of cheating.
Console gamers might find themselves justifiably frustrated due to the crossplay feature in Black Ops 6 that unites them with PC players. Regrettably, many of the notorious hackers are predominantly found on PC platforms. While it’s important to acknowledge that cheating does occur on consoles as well, it’s significantly less prevalent compared to the PC version. This includes a nod towards those who use Cronus devices.
Although I’m not exceptionally skilled at Black Ops 6, I’ve been having fun with it. Every now and then, you encounter cheaters in public games, but when switching to ranked matches, it feels like there was a cheater almost every game – even at lower tiers. It’s rewarding when my team still wins, but it’s incredibly frustrating.
Despite being uncertain about the solution, I’m optimistic one exists. As swiftly as these accounts are suspended, others seem to emerge. It brings me back to when Electronic Arts claimed that the Steam Deck was the root cause of widespread cheating. What we really want is to enjoy some games and have fun. It’s all so frustrating.
