As someone who’s been glued to the screen every time Call the Midwife airs, I can confidently say that I am thrilled about this year’s Christmas special. The series has always been a comforting blend of drama, humor, and humanity, and it seems like they’re doubling down on that formula with a double-bill!
Chaos is on the horizon for the Buckles in the 2024 Call the Midwife Christmas special.
This holiday season, BBC One will air the comeback of the long-standing period drama. For the first time ever, it’s a double episode festive special. As always, the midwives are tirelessly attending to births, but they face difficulties such as influenza outbreaks, including the Hong Kong flu, and dealing with an escaped convict!
Moreover, Reggie Jackson (Daniel Laurie) is not out of the woods yet, facing challenges as he delves deeper into his freshly discovered freedom.
“When working on a project together, he receives an individual paycheck with his name on it as a way to foster responsibility. Given his growing maturity, they are making efforts to acknowledge and nurture this transition.
But of course, that comes with risks.
On that specific event, the situation spirals out of order, he explained. I believe it serves as a reminder of his vulnerability. When everything functions smoothly, there’s no issue, but when things fall apart, he’s at a loss. He’s unsure of how to respond.
Initially, Laurie made his debut on “Call the Midwife” during season 6, after the passing of Reggie’s mother. This tragic event led the nuns to offer him their care. Later on, Fred and Violet (played by Annabelle Apsion) welcomed him into their home.
Viewers can anticipate an intriguing collection of Christmas-themed episodes, as described by Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne), where the atmosphere will be a blend of somber and comedic undertones.
She added: “Though it’s rather dim, there’s an abundance of humor and compassion within, which makes it all feel lighter.
Acknowledging that these are tough times, that they’ve been challenging for us in the past and likely will continue to be so, is simply a way of expressing this truth.
Count us excited!
