Call the Midwife star teases “much more settled” season for the Turners

As a long-time fan of Call the Midwife, this season has been quite the rollercoaster ride for me. The Turners’ storyline about May and her mother was particularly poignant, reminding us all that family bonds can be both a source of comfort and a source of tension. It was heartening to see Shelagh and Patrick pass the formal review and keep their family together.

Season 13 of Call the Midwife proved to be especially challenging for the Turners.

The strong family bond they had was put at risk when May’s birth mother from Hong Kong grew worried about her daughter’s safety after May almost drowned while they were enjoying a day at the beach together.

As a movie reviewer, I’d rephrase it like this: “Initially, I believed their care would ensure my daughter’s safety, but it seemed there was a chance she might transition to a place where I have greater trust for her wellbeing.

Fortunately, Shelagh and Patrick Turner successfully aced the formal evaluation, leaving Miss Tang reassured that May was under capable care.

Speaking about the storyline, Stephen McGann expressed that it was quite distressing for him. Now, that chapter seems to be wrapped up.

“It’s a much more settled time,” he added.

As a dedicated cinephile, I must say that it’s been quite delightful for my on-screen wife Shelagh (played by the talented Laura) and myself this year.

But of course there will still be “ups and downs”, such is the reality of being a parent.

In a few years from now, Alice (the actress playing Angela Turner) will turn 13 and might start giving me the cold shoulder.

However, Joyce’s experience may not turn out to be as pleasant, as she encounters racial prejudice from those she is tasked to care for in her role as a midwife.

Later on, Bailey explained that since Joyce had made significant sacrifices to arrive there, such as fleeing an abusive marriage, she’s determined not to let it go, including facing prejudicial attitudes.

In my view, there’s a certain resilience in her assertion, “I worked hard to get here, and I earned the right to be present.” This conviction seems to serve as her anchor.
