Call the Midwife’s Cyril and Rosalind bond over effort to help community

Tonight on BBC One, the second episode of Call the Midwife’s latest season airs, and it seems that the developing relationship between Cyril (played by Zephryn Taitte) and Rosalind (Natalie Quarry) will remain a central theme.

In the latest Christmas special this year, I found myself forming an unexpected alliance with two characters. When they banded together to arrange a funeral for one’s mother who was an escaped convict, I never saw that coming! The bond between them grew even stronger in the premiere of the new season, as Cyril proposed that Rosalind join him in his volunteer work at a homeless shelter. This connection is deepening more with each passing episode.

It’s been stated that they might encounter rough waters in their relationship throughout the series, as Quarry hinted at potential “troubles” ahead. However, judging from a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, everything seems to be going smoothly for them at this point.

The scene unfolds at the previously mentioned homeless shelter, beginning as Rosalind arrives ready to lend a hand. She then engages in a heartwarming dialogue with Cyril.

“It’s not enough to just feed people is it?” she says. “They need to be included.”

If Cyril consents, Rosalind queries whether he believes there’s an opportunity to “encourage their participation in everyday community activities, perhaps by offering them chances to engage in normal events.

I mention that some of them might find it intriguing, and I propose the idea of a flower festival – sharing that the shelter where I volunteer is among the rare local organizations yet unaffiliated with providing a floral arrangement for the event.

She mentions that these gentlemen could potentially decide to participate as a unit, but at that instant, an intense argument erupts in the adjoining room, causing Cyril to step in and resolve it.

Meanwhile, Quarry said that had been “nice to see Rosalind growing up a bit”.

She’s quite innocent when she initially starts, she noted. I believe she learns a great deal throughout the entire season about the broader aspects of the world.
