Cameron Diaz Would Return for a Mask Sequel Under This Condition

In 1994, The Mask provided a stellar platform for the two leading actors, Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz. Since then, neither actor has looked away from their successful careers. Over time, The Mask has grown even more popular, yet its sequel, released much later, lacked the original cast. This has left many fans pondering what it would take to create a sequel with the original stars. During an interview with Access Hollywood, Diaz shared one specific requirement for her return in a potential sequel (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter).

For Diaz, it all boils down to one individual being involved. When queried about a potential sequel, Diaz mentioned, “If Jim is on board, well, I’ve been hitching my ride on his coattails since the beginning.

It appears Carrey is also considering the possibility, as he mentioned in an interview with ComicBook what conditions would prompt him to return for a sequel. “Well, it has to be the right concept. If someone had a good idea, I suppose… It’s not really about the money. I often joke about the money… But I never know. You can’t be certain about these things.

Carrey mentioned he wanted to retire, but he might have been referring to taking a break instead. He explained that when an exciting idea arises or a team he enjoys collaborating with presents itself, his usual response is – things can shift quite dramatically.

During the interview, Diaz wasn’t just questioned about The Mask, but also about potentially reprising her role in a future Charlie’s Angels sequel. In the past, Diaz has played one of the Angels alongside Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore, in both Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003). Regrettably, a 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels was underappreciated and didn’t perform well at the box office, so no follow-ups are planned for it.

When asked if they might take on larger roles, Diaz expressed enthusiasm, stating, “That would be fantastic! It’d truly be fantastic.” Later, Jamie Foxx, co-starring with Diaz in Back in Action, hinted at wanting to join the action by declaring, “I’m planning to toss my hat into the ring” for the role of Bosley. Diaz immediately showed interest, responding, “I’m going to text her [Liu] right away and suggest Jamie as Bosley.
