Can I play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Steam Deck?
As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, let me guide you through the thrilling world of Indiana Jones and his latest adventure!
On the Steam Deck, it’s possible to run Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but the graphics are so low quality that I wouldn’t advise it for most people. If you’re undeterred and wish to proceed with playing on the Steam Deck, you’ll need to tweak some settings and switch the Steam Deck to Proton Experimental beta mode. Here’s a guide on how to do that (link provided later in this article).
Can I play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on ROG Ally or Legion Go?
Absolutely! The game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle performs exceptionally well on ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go. However, you may need to tweak some settings to achieve the optimal handheld gaming experience. Here’s where you can find those settings for both ROG Ally and Legion Go.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on gaming handhelds
Initially, I doubted whether Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would perform smoothly on portable devices due to its demanding PC specifications. But, I must say, it exceeded my expectations.
I’ve enjoyed playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle from Steam on a variety of platforms, including the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, and Legion Go. Additionally, you can access this game via Xbox Game Pass as well.
Although Indy’s recent escapade generally functions well (with minor hiccups if the settings are optimal) on these devices, the graphics on Steam Deck noticeably underperform. There’s a lot of pop-in, odd artifacts surround character’s eyes, everything appears grainy, and it’s exceptionally challenging to discern anything in dimly lit areas.
During the game’s beginning, you reexperience scenes similar to the initial sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, which includes exploring ancient ruins. This part functioned smoothly on Windows 11 portable gaming devices; however, once I ventured into the ruins on Steam Deck, the screen became extremely dim and hard to make out details.
As an analyst, I found myself struggling with visibility issues while playing a game on my Deck. Tweaking the in-game settings to increase brightness didn’t seem to make a difference. In desperation, I decided to switch to the Proton Experimental beta version, which surprisingly allowed me to navigate the game’s tricky obstacles. However, the game’s characters had prominent eye outlines that were quite distracting, and the overall graininess of each environment was hard to overlook.

Here’s another way to phrase it that’s easier to understand:
For an optimal gaming experience, switch your Steam Deck to Proton Experimental beta mode. This update will enhance certain performance aspects and provide clearer visibility in dimly lit sections of the game. Subsequently, adjust your game settings according to these recommendations:

Is Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Steam Deck verified?
No. On Steam’s official page for the game, Steam Deck Compatibility is listed as “Unknown.”
The game technically can be played on Steam Deck, but the visuals look really bad.
Best ROG Ally and Legion Go settings for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Prior to starting Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, ensure that your Ally or Legion laptop’s TDP (Thermal Design Power) is set to its maximum. The game won’t launch unless you do this. For an optimal gaming experience, it’s recommended to activate AFMF (Advanced Fan Management Feature) on the ROG Ally and also boost the VRAM (Video Random Access Memory).
In ideal conditions, this role-playing game usually maintained about 40 frames per second (FPS), though it occasionally dropped down to 30 FPS when operating at top performance settings.

Swing into Indy’s latest adventure on your gaming handheld
If you own a high-performance handheld gaming PC such as ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, or Legion Go, you can savor Indiana Jones’ newest adventure provided you configure the device for optimum performance. Keep in mind that both the game settings and system settings should be fine-tuned to ensure smooth operation.
Although the Steam Deck can be played, and surprisingly runs more smoothly than anticipated, I wouldn’t advise using it extensively due to numerous visually disruptive features.
