As a die-hard fan of all things DC, I’ve been eagerly awaiting James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new take on our beloved universe. The upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos, is like a tantalizing appetizer before the main course – their new Superman film next summer.
The upcoming reimagining by James Gunn and Peter Safran for the DC Universe is poised to officially commence the following summer, primarily focusing on a fresh perspective for Superman. However, ahead of this main event, fans will be treated to a preview in the form of an innovative new animated series titled Creature Commandos.
The upcoming series shares a structure reminiscent of Suicide Squad, and it focuses on Rick Flag’s father, previously portrayed by Joel Kinnaman, who commands an unconventional team of incarcerated individuals, among whom is Eric Frankenstein, known as Weasel.
Gunn has assured fans that they don’t have to obsessively watch every new project to follow along, but the DC Universe’s series and movies will be interconnected. Frank Grillo’s portrayal of Rick Flag Sr is expected to appear in upcoming projects such as Superman and Peacemaker season 2.
Regarding the possibility of other characters making an appearance, Gunn hinted: “We’ve got some intriguing plans for different projects, and it’s quite likely that a few of these individuals might show up in various forms within other platforms soon.
However, since Creature Commandos has made its way to the United States, we’re left wondering: How can fans in the UK catch up on this series? Here’s a rundown of where and when you might get a chance to watch it, right here in our part of the world.
How can you watch Creature Commandos in the UK?
In the United States, DC enthusiasts can start watching the first two episodes of Creature Commandos from 5th December 2024, available on streaming service Max. However, it appears that fans in the UK might need to be patient for a slightly longer wait.
At present, we don’t have any updates regarding the release date for Creature Commandos in the United Kingdom, nor do we know where fans can catch it once it becomes available.
Based on our assumption, it seems likely that it will be broadcasted on Sky and the streaming platform NOW. This is consistent with how other HBO and Max series have been aired, as well as the DC show Peacemaker which was previously shown there.
Approximately two months following the U.S. debut of Sky, Peacemaker might have aired around early February 2025, hinting that we could potentially begin viewing Creature Commandos episodes during that timeframe.

What is Creature Commandos about?
The seven-part adult cartoon revolves around the formation of a covert ops group consisting of criminals by Amanda Waller, serving as a forerunner to what later became known as the Suicide Squad.
The series marks the debut of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s fresh take on the DC Universe. Following this, Gunn’s Superman movie is anticipated as the subsequent project in their production lineup.
Who stars in Creature Commandos?
In the voiceover for Creature Commandos, you’ll find three actors reprising characters they played in previous live-action productions.
In the upcoming project, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, and Viola Davis will reprise their roles as John Economos, Weasel, and Amanda Waller, having been initially presented in The Suicide Squad (2021) and Suicide Squad (2016).
Agee and Waller also had roles in Gunn’s Peacemaker series.
Additionally, these individuals – Maria Bakalova from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, David Harbour known for Stranger Things, Indira Varma who’s worked on Doctor Who, and Anya Chalotra hailing from The Witcher series – are now part of our group as well.
