Prior to the much-anticipated PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we now have a clear understanding of the hardware requirements needed for gameplay. Similar to the previous two games transitioning from PlayStation to PC, there is positive news.
Sony has provided detailed specifications for playing their game, ranging from the bare minimum to top-notch ray-tracing capabilities. However, rest assured that you can disable ray-tracing if you find it unnecessary.
Here’s what we’re looking at.
Full Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC system requirements
Of course, it’s not surprising that to enjoy all the advanced features such as ray tracing and high-resolution graphics, you’ll need the top-tier performance offered by the most expensive graphics cards available on the market. The highest level of ray tracing performance currently demands an RTX 4090, and if available, a new RTX 5090 would likely provide even better results.
At the less demanding level is where things become more captivating. Even though it might only offer 720p resolution at 30 frames per second with low settings, what matters is that you can run it on relatively simple equipment. Fortunately, the system requirements aren’t excessively high, either.
Can you play Spider-Man 2 on Steam Deck or ROG Ally?
According to official reports, the Steam Deck compatibility status is currently listed as ‘Undetermined’. However, there are several indications that give us cause for optimism.
First off, the necessary prerequisites are quite minimal, even though they don’t provide any clarity about whether the Steam Deck GPU or the AMD Z1 Extreme’s graphics can handle the job. However, this isn’t surprising.
It’s worth noting that both the Steam Deck and handheld devices running Windows 11 can surprisingly handle games that are quite demanding. For instance, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man Miles Morales have been successfully run on these portable devices. I’ve personally enjoyed the former game on my Steam Deck, and although it sometimes drops to a lower frame rate of 30 FPS, this isn’t much of an issue for me in this context.
The prospect of an enjoyable experience on handheld devices is bolstered by the compatibility with AMD FSR 3.1 and Frame Generation. If everything goes according to plan, AMD’s upscaling and frame generation technology could potentially enhance our experience significantly on these portable devices.
As I eagerly anticipate its release, I’m looking forward to delving deeply into Spider-Man 2 on both the Steam Deck and Windows handheld systems once they become available.
