Capcom is Expanding Development Teams With 100 New Employees Every Year, New Building Next to HQ

As reported by Gamebiz.jp, Capcom has officially announced its intention to extend its development department by constructing a new building set to complete by 2027. This structure will be strategically located next to Capcom’s main office in Osaka, Japan. The company aims to strengthen its development teams by recruiting around 100 new employees annually.

During a recent earnings conference call for the financial year concluding in March 2025, the company disclosed its future strategies. At this event, they also emphasized that RE Engine will remain their primary game development platform. This engine is scheduled for ongoing enhancements and updates to accommodate emerging technologies and boost productivity.

In early October, Capcom shared some updated sales figures for their top-tier franchises and announced a remarkable 12th consecutive year of increased profits. As per their financial report, “Monster Hunter Rise” has significantly boosted these earnings, with the company aiming to sell a total of 54 million copies in the upcoming fiscal year. Remarkably, over 10 million copies of this game were sold within its first month on sale.

The sales figures for Capcom’s various franchises have been disclosed. Currently, the Resident Evil franchise counts 170 units sold, while the Monster Hunter franchise has reached an impressive 120 million. Street Fighter remains popular with 56 million copies sold, and Mega Man is close behind with 43 million. Devil May Cry follows at 33 million copies. Some other titles under Capcom’s wing, such as Onimusha (8.7 million), Ace Attorney (13 million), and Okami (4.6 million) have also seen significant sales.

It’s expected that Monster Hunter Wilds will continue to sell well due to ongoing post-launch updates. Meanwhile, Capcom is focusing on rejuvenating some of its classic intellectual properties. Last year at The Game Awards 2024, they announced a sequel to Okami, with Hideki Kamiya leading the project and a team called Clovers handling development. The new game is being created using RE Engine and has Machine Head Works providing support.

As a fan, I’m excited to share that in our current collaboration with Capcom and Clover Studios, it is Capcom who holds the primary rights to the Ōkami IP, thereby guiding the overall direction of the games. On the other hand, Clover Studios serves as the lead developer for this particular project, under my supervision as a producer at Machine Head Works.

A reboot of the Onimusha series is being planned, with a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny having been recently released. Additionally, an all-new sequel called Onimusha: Way of the Sword is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Capcom has shared some details about the upcoming game, such as its estimated completion time of around 20 hours and the inclusion of stage-based progression.
