Just what is going on with Rival Schools right now?
The classic fighting game from PlayStation 1 is currently experiencing a resurgence, as the sequel to Dreamcast’s Project Justice will be part of the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and a new comic series by Udon Entertainment is also in development.
This year’s Free Comic Book Day, happening on May 3rd, will include a match-up between Street Fighter and Rival Schools in its event lineup.
If you’re not aware, Free Comic Book Day is essentially a gathering in various stores where fans can collect comics for free, just as the name suggests. However, it might be challenging to participate if you don’t reside close to a comic book store.
Regardless of the specifics, it appears that Udon Entertainment, working alongside Capcom, is getting ready to host a crossover event featuring Street Fighter and Rival Schools.
In the official summary, it is stated that the characters from Street Fighter and Rival Schools, who are both heroes and troublemakers respectively, come together in a learning environment, as if they were studying together.
In a fight reminiscent of a schoolyard scuffle, Chun-Li, Dan, and Sakura go up against Batsu, Edge, Kyoko, and others. This confrontation could land everyone in trouble with the school authorities!

Interestingly, this isn’t the only new Rival Schools book out this week.
On the 30th of April, a forthcoming hardcover book is set to highlight the remarkable artworks from each of the Rival Schools series, featuring sketches, unused ideas, and additional content.
It seems that the franchise could have a continued future, even though director Hideaki Itsuno parted ways with Capcom in 2024.
