It’s been pointed out by Reddit user Madukes96 that renowned Japanese game publisher Capcom has not released any of their games on the Epic Games Store. This company, known for popular franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter, has thrived on other platforms such as consoles and Steam. Despite the growing success of the Epic Games Store, it appears Capcom hasn’t chosen to transfer its existing games over to this platform yet.
The post references a question asked during Capcom’s Second Quarter Fiscal Year 2020 Presentation (linked for reference), regarding whether the company plans to launch future projects on the Epic Games Store.
At the moment, Capcom isn’t providing comments regarding particular services, including the Epic Games Store. They plan to explore possibilities across multiple platforms in the future.
It’s quite conspicuous that Capcom hasn’t made much of an appearance on the Epic Games Store, particularly considering some of their larger games have enjoyed significant success across multiple platforms. For instance, Monster Hunter World, released earlier this year, managed to sell a record-breaking 8 million copies in just three days, making it the fastest Capcom game to reach such a milestone. On Steam, its launch day boasted over 1.3 million concurrent players, placing it among the most popular games on the platform ever. Moreover, while there are numerous chances to purchase Resident Evil titles elsewhere, they’re not typically discounted during the Epic Games Store’s frequent sales.
Even though Capcom isn’t currently part of it, Epic Games Store manages to attract new users daily. One of its major attractions is its weekly giveaways, offering free games like Deliver at All Costs, Gigapocalyse, and Sifu up until May 29th. This strategy effectively encourages gamers to try out new titles and discover various genres. For now, it’s unlikely that games like Devil May Cry or Dead Rising will become part of these giveaways soon.
