Captain America 4 Director Addresses Seth Rollins Getting Cut From MCU Sequel

At long last, Captain America: Brave New World is ready for its theater debut, and it’s been quite a ride getting here. Throughout the movie’s production, there have been some significant alterations, one of which involved WWE superstar Seth Rollins. Initially, during the filming, Rollins was part of the Serpent Society; however, it was disclosed later that his character and footage did not make it into the final version of the movie. Chris Killian from ComicBook had the opportunity to sit down with director Julius Onah for a chat about the film, discussing why Rollins’ role didn’t appear in the end product.

Speaking of the Serpent Society, a group of characters from comic books known for their snake-themed costumes and abilities, Onah mentioned that he’s constantly refining and brainstorming the ideal representation for such a group in this type of movie. He highly appreciates Seth’s work, but as the storyline evolved and we had an extra photography phase (which was planned early on), we decided to make some adjustments.

In a search for someone who would perfectly fit the required seriousness and tone, we were pondering, ‘who could be just right for this role?’ Then, when Giancarlo emerged as an option, it was an obvious choice. I have a unique background with him, having worked with him during my internship with Spike Lee at the age of 19. He is renowned for his work with Spike Lee.

Additionally, fans have been eagerly suggesting him for roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time. The focus now is ensuring that every aspect of the movie aligns with the realistic tone and vision I envision. Over time, Giancarlo emerged as a fitting choice. It’s truly fortunate to have him on board for this film.

Unfortunately, we won’t get the chance to witness Rollins’ MCU debut in the film, but there’s a possibility that some of those scenes might surface as bonus features on the home video release. Interestingly, this has happened before – even Avengers: Endgame released unfinished scenes at one point, such as the Hulk’s scene, so we’ll simply have to be patient and wait for further developments.

These days, I’ve found myself quite occupied with the whirlwind of activities unfolding in the WWE, particularly with WrestleMania fast approaching. Last weekend at the Royal Rumble, I was eliminated alongside Roman Reigns by CM Punk. However, my anger didn’t subside; instead, it fueled me to unleash a series of curb stomps on Reigns, both on the floor and steel steps. My aggression towards Punk also reached boiling point, and security had to intervene when I attacked him following his own elimination, courtesy of Logan Paul.

It appears that Rollins is set for another confrontation with Reigns at WrestleMania. This potential matchup could quickly reignite their rivalry within a few months. Interestingly, their feud didn’t cool down in the first place, and Rollins significantly contributed to Cody Rhodes’ victory against Reigns at WrestleMania 40. It seems they’re destined for another clash.
