As a lifelong fan of both Marvel and Harrison Ford, I must say that the revelation of the veteran actor joining the MCU as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: Brave New World sent shivers down my spine. The prospect of seeing Ford bring his unique charm and gravitas to the world of superheroes is nothing short of exhilarating.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the highly anticipated film, “Captain America: Brave New World,” left a significant impression. The focus was undeniably on Harrison Ford, who’s set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Notably, this character will undergo a crucial metamorphosis into the Red Hulk, taking over from the late William Hurt.

At SDCC 2024, Ford drew attention by displaying an intense “Hulk-like outburst” on stage in Hall H during Marvel’s Captain America 4 presentation. The footage unveiled at the event also offered a comprehensive glimpse of Red Hulk, causing fans to express diverse opinions regarding the facial-capture design that merges Ford’s features with those of Red Hulk.

During an interview with Variety at Comic-Con, Ford humorously described the steps he took to perform motion capture and bring Red Hulk to life: “What was required? It was about being indifferent. It was about being a fool for cash, something I’ve done in the past.”

The actor was mindful of how his comments might be perceived, so he clarified immediately by stating, “I’m not trying to belittle it; instead, I’m pointing out that there are specific actions involved which a parent or acting coach might advise against. However, it was enjoyable, and I had a fantastic time. I’m thrilled with the positive reaction we received from the trailer.”

At the Hall H panel, Ford openly expressed his satisfaction with taking on the role of Captain America in “Brave New World”, regardless of any perceived silliness during the process.

“Ford described his character as one deeply rooted in history shared with Bill [Hurt], who portrayed the role earlier. However, now he embodies Thaddeus, and he’s thrilled about it. He feels honored to join the Marvel universe. For a long time, he’s admired outstanding actors, some of whom are present here tonight, enjoying their work in the Marvel universe, and he wanted to get involved too. He is incredibly proud to be part of this movie. He believes the film has turned out wonderfully,”

ComicBook’s Phase Zero host Brandon Davis was in Hall H, and describes the footage as such:

In the video, Harrison Ford’s character, President Ross, describes that when a celestial body surfaced from the Indian Ocean, humans began arguing over it and attempted to exploit its resources. He emphasizes that this new discovery should be shared by everyone. Later, President Ross and Sam discuss how past conflicts have been overshadowed by Sam’s recent achievements and their shared goal of “reviving the Avengers.” They also talk about how they will handle disagreements when managing situations. In the following scene, Sam receives a new suit, which is followed by a promotional preview.

Sidewinder prepares for a fatal attack on Sam, warning him to “standby for proof of life.” Intense scenes follow as Sam confronts the President over betrayal within his circle. Ross tries to dismiss it, but Sam is not satisfied. The narrative shifts to an action-packed sequence, including Sam evading rockets in the Tiamut region. Later, Sam and Joaquin walk together, with Joaquin dressed in a green Falcon suit. The trailer concludes with fast-paced action clips and the President transforming into the Red Hulk on a White House podium, letting out a powerful roar.

Captain America: Brave New World opens only in theaters on February 14th, 2025.
