Captain America: Brave New World’s Director’s Reaction to Harrison Ford’s Hulk: “Holy F-cking Sh-t”

As a seasoned moviegoer with decades of cinematic experiences under my belt, I can confidently say that Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World is nothing short of breathtaking. Having witnessed the evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from its inception, it’s truly awe-inspiring to see an acting legend like Ford step into such an iconic role.

In the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World”, Harrison Ford faces significant expectation to embody the Red Hulk character. However, director Julius Onah is confident that Ford has handled the task admirably. In an interview with Empire Magazine this week, Onah expressed his enthusiasm for Ford’s performance, particularly since he’s stepping into a role once played by a friend. Onah used words like “mind-blowing” to describe Ford’s portrayal.

Onah candidly stated, ‘Wow, what a fantastic performance!’ was the general sentiment on set. He praised the portrayal of a Hulk that is truly smashing things and an enraged monster. Notably impressive is Ford’s delivery given he’s 82 years old, though it’s important to note that CGI plays a significant role. In the trailer released last month, we catch glimpses of Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, with a brief finale showing the Red Hulk in action.

In a notable shift, it was evident that Ford was more engrossed in portraying Ross rather than the Red Hulk. Ross, previously depicted by the late William Hurt who passed away in 2022, has featured in five Marvel Cinematic Universe films. This upcoming appearance will mark his first posthumous screen presence. Ross and the Hulk initially butted heads as a U.S. Military general, later squaring off with the Avengers when he served as the Secretary of State. Now, having been elected president, Ford aims to preserve some consistency in his portrayal of the character.

He shared with Empire that he felt somewhat apprehensive about replacing Bill Hurt, an exceptional actor. “I was eager to discover the best approach to portray this character, following the audience’s previous encounters with other actors. I may not be deeply acquainted with the Marvel Universe, as I hail from a different realm, but I have enjoyed numerous Marvel films featuring talented actors enjoying themselves. And I pondered, ‘Why not me?’

In terms of portraying the Red Hulk character, Ford found it wasn’t overly complex. He explained his approach as follows: “I aimed to grasp the filmmakers’ ambition and be helpful to them. I didn’t spend my evenings pondering, ‘What would I like to do when I transform into the Hulk?’ To me, it didn’t appear to be a particularly challenging acting task.

As a film enthusiast eagerly waiting for the next chapter, I’m excited to share that my favorite superhero, Captain America, will return in “Captain America: Brave New World,” hitting the big screen on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025! And if that’s not enough, get ready for another adrenaline-pumping adventure with Ford in “Thunderbolts” on May 2, 2025. Until then, I recommend catching up on all the Marvel Cinematic Universe action and stories available right now on Disney+!
