Over the moon here! The fantastic animated series, “Iyanu,” inspired by Nigerian mythology, has just been given the go-ahead for a second season by Cartoon Network and Max. To sweeten the deal even more, two feature-length movies are also in the works for fans to savor. Earlier this year, “Iyanu” made its debut on these channels, winning over viewers with its unique blend of enchantment and the gripping tale of Iyanu, an orphan who discovers her divine powers. Based on Roye Okupe’s award-winning graphic novel, “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” and published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics, this series has captured hearts and minds. Now, we eagerly await the return of Iyanu in Season 2 and the movies that will further explore her world.
In Season 2 of the series “Iyanu“, there will be ten episodes similar to the first season. The audience will join Iyanu on her journey as she hones her growing abilities, finding herself in the heart of a fierce battle between Elu and the Deep People, led by a formidable new adversary. With different factions of Yorubaland fighting for divine artifacts that have resurfaced once more, Iyanu seeks a means to end the conflict and bring tranquility back. As Team Chosen reconvenes and animosities escalate between former allies and enemies, Iyanu faces even stronger perils from the Age of Wonders—including mysteries hidden in her own history.
David Steward II, CEO of Lion Forge Entertainment, expressed great enthusiasm about the audience’s reaction towards ‘Iyanu’. He stated that the chance to extend this universe through a second season and two feature films underscores the impact of compelling storytelling and creative partnership. He is thankful for the ongoing backing from their partners at Cartoon Network and Max, and it has been an enjoyable experience working together with Roye in bringing Iyanu to life and establishing the franchise.
This victory is a big deal for fans of Iyanu, Lion Forge Entertainment, and YouNeek Studios worldwide! The enthusiasm for our show has been overwhelmingly heartwarming, and this incredible response means we get to create the next chapter in Iyanu’s story. I’m excited about further developing the world of Iyanu and the YouNeek Universe, and can’t wait to take this adventure across the globe with audiences everywhere. This is just the start, according to Okupe.
In regards to the two full-length movies, one animated film called “The Age of Wonders” is scheduled for release later this year. This movie will take audiences 500 years back in time before the rise of Iyanu, showing a flourishing Yorubaland at the height of its enchanted civilization. When an entity embodying the seven deadly sins endangers the world, Iyanu’s predecessors unite with the Divine Ones to halt the impending Age of Darkness.
The second season of “Iyanu” is anticipated to debut on Cartoon Network and Max in 2026, with the second movie, now in production, set to follow.
At present, Cartoon Network is working on refreshing some of its beloved series. As a Warner Bros. executive noted, reviving classic intellectual properties can be beneficial from a business standpoint because the public is already familiar with these brand names. This means that creating a new audience isn’t as challenging since they are already invested in the brands. In the pipeline, we have plans for re-introductions and reboots of shows such as The Powerpuff Girls, Regular Show, Adventure Time, among others.
