During the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network had a lot to share, with one standout development being a unique special featuring some of Cartoon Network’s most renowned creators, exclusively for Adult Swim. Warner Bros. Animation also revealed more about their upcoming animated projects at the event, and naturally, Adult Swim and Cartoon Network were part of the excitement as well. They not only unveiled new designs and updates for previously announced productions, but they also had some major surprises in store.
During the Annecy event, Adult Swim revealed numerous upcoming projects, and one of the most intriguing is a secretive new special titled “The Elephant“. This unique special will bring together acclaimed Cartoon Network creators such as Rebecca Sugar (known for “Steven Universe” and its spin-off “Steven Universe: Lars of the Stars“), Ian Jones-Quartey (“O.K. KO! Let’s Be Heroes“), Pendleton Ward (“Adventure Time“) and Patrick McHale (“Over the Garden Wall“). Interestingly, each creator is contributing to “The Elephant” without knowing what the others are working on for the project.
What Is The Elephant?
According to Adult Swim’s press release about their Annecy International Animation Film Festival announcement, “The Elephant” is hinted as an extraordinary, enigmatic animated event, with details still shrouded in mystery even to its creators. Each creative team will contribute to one of the three acts in this new special, unaware of what the others are working on. Sugar and Jones-Quartey will collaborate for a segment, while McHale and Ward will independently handle their own parts that eventually combine to form an unexpected narrative when combined.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be joining forces with Jack Pendarvis and Kent Osborne as we navigate the creation of three segments for an exciting project titled “The Elephant,” produced by Titmouse for Adult Swim. This special will also come with a captivating behind-the-scenes documentary, offering a glimpse into the dynamic, unpredictable atmosphere that will fuel this creative journey.
With Adult Swim keeping details under wraps for now, it seems we’re in for an unexpected ride, as the mystery surrounding “The Elephant” continues to grow. Fingers crossed for more revelations as we inch closer to its release! As of now, Adult Swim has set a 2026 premiere window for this intriguing endeavor. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!
